Beovision datalink compatibility with Beosystem 5000

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I couldn't find it in a search or the FAQs. What, if any, Beovisions are compatible with the datalink of the Beosystem 5000?

    BeoSystem 5000 (BM 5000, BG 5005, BC 5000, CD50), BeoCenter 3500, BeoCenter 2500, BeoLab 2500, BeoVox S-45, S-45.2, RL-140, CX-100, CX-50, C-75, 3 MCL82 link rooms, A8, 4001 relay and ambio

Try the Beotech sister/micro-site to Beoworld.

Look here for some indications => http://www.beoworld.org/beotech/mclcompat.htm

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

Through the AUX-socket, one can use a seven-pin DIN-cable and remote-control some functions with the MCP5000.

I have used my Beomaster 5500 with both an LX2802-N and an MX3500.

Beocenter 9300, Beogam CD50, Beocord 5500, Beomaster 3400, Beomaster 4400, 2 Beogram 4000, Beomaster 8000, 2 beogram 8002, Beovox S-75, Beovox MS150.2, Beovox RL6000, Beovox S-35, Beomaster 6000, 2 Beocord 9000, Beocord 8004, Beocord 5000, Form 1, 2x Beolink 1000, Beo4, MX3500, LS4500. Thanks, and I did check the site first, but the BeoSystem was not specifically listed. I was wondering if anyone had any information to confirm compatibility. For example, can I connect an 32" Avant to my BeoSystem 5000 for audio and control?

Just to make sure we are all on the same page, by Beosystem 5000 you mean this ensemble = http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=957 ?

Then yes, it (and its amplifier, the Beomaster 5000) are missing from that table.  Sadly the Beosystem 5000 (and I have one) became an island as its version of MCL rapidly became obsolete: http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=971

I am confused by the other reply - it seems he is using a Beomaster 5500 (that supports MCL, not MCL82) but with the bepmaster 5000's remote . . .

Yes, that is the system I have. I was afraid I would be on an island with this configuration, but I thought MCL82 and datalink were really two different technologies. Are there any BeoVisions that will communicate with the BM5000 on the datalink cable for audio?

good point - I think they are

your thinking is more precise than mine

the only reference I came across was for interfacing a VHS 92.1 to a BM 5000 as a beocord with high capacity

which I guess highlights the issue - how could one envision a TV as a slave to an audio system (which is I guess wht B&O talks about audio masters and video masters) and what commands should it respond to ?  I know we could image that it should be thought of as a radio (but which Beosystems have discrette radios?) or a CD and therefore respond to ^ and v channel commands as well as volume commands for its in-built speaker

like you I have often approached B&O with an expectation of "plug and play" and I have often come a cropper because that is not how their designers have chosen to solve the problem

I think you are on to it here... Even with the later Beomasters and Beovisions which can be linked together, the connection isn't Datalink - it's audio aux link which is slightly different. They are not on the same bus in the Beomaster and the TV/AUX socket doesn't work the same way that other sources do. The Beovisions can't pretend to be an audio source you could control the same way as e.g. a CD player and therefore I don't think the Beomaster 5000 (which doesn't have a TV/AUX socket) software knows anything about this. The TVs only respond to video commands (if they are optioned to do that over the AUX link) and the remote control system of the BM5000 doesn't have such a notion at all.

In short, I think you are stuck with two remotes, one for the Beomaster and another for the TV. You can still of course connect the TV to the Beomaster as a source, but the control won't integrate.

EDIT: I'll stop editing now Smile

Re: Beovision datalink compatibility with Beosystem 5000

The only B&O audio and video products which have A/V integration are, as far as I know, all at least controlled by BeoLink 1000. So the first audio-systems that have this function are BeoCenter 9000 and BeoSystem 5500 and te first TV's are LX2800 and LX2500. So BeoSystem 5000 is not one of those.

Re: Beovision datalink compatibility with Beosystem 5000

I guess I could live with using two remotes. What is the best way to connect an Avant to the BM5000? Is there a ready cable from Sounds Heavenly I could buy? What setting options are needed on the Avant?

Re: Beovision datalink compatibility with Beosystem 5000

As mentioned earlier, the BM5000 was only designed to interface with a Beocord VHS91 vcr. This machine had a 5 pin din socket allowing the BM to use the vcr as an audio recorder(as tape2)and control it from the MCP.You could also of course play tv or tape sound sound from the vcr.

The data comms in the BM5000 and later generation products such as Avant, are quite different and not compatible. You can connect the devices for audio only of course, but will two remotes for control.

Thanks. So is there a ready made cable I can use to connect the audio output from an Avant to my BS5000?
