    B&W PV1 subwoofer add to 5.1 module of BV8-40?

    Hi guys,

took me hours to read all the engl. articles about the B&W PV1 in the forum. Seems not the question: PV1 or the BL2, seems only which color of the PV1.

Is there anybody with the same configuration, able to help?

    BV8-40 with BL8002, masterlinked BS4
So, has anybody switched the B&W PV1 to the 5.1-module of the Beovision?

I will not interconnect the PV1 to the BL8002, I`d like to switch it direct to the telly to the 5.1-module. I think, the powerlink to double chinch is the way it goes?

Will there be any problems if I´m using a "non-B&O subwoofer" (PV1) instead of a original B&O subwoofer (BL2).Because I do not end up with a not proper working solution, I`m asking in advance.

Because I do not have the possibility to test the PV1 and the BL2 at home, I`m dependent to your advice.

Thank you very much for your help.

    Take care

    Hi,

I have BL3s connected to my BV 10 and a BL11. The BL 11 has been a wonderful adition and made it all sound much better. In my humble opinion the BL2 would be overkilling.

    BeoFab,

thank you for your answer. First the BL11 was a must have. But after talking to 4 different B&O dealer (all 4 told me the BL11 is not the right sub. for BL8002/BL3; only up to 4000/6000), I was at the beginning of my search.

@hotknife: I have BL8000's and I can assure you that the BL11 is great addition... :-)

    Honestly,

I had the same way of thinking that you had without even demo it. So I decided that I wanted to listen to it but I wanted to listen to it in my own home not in a showroom where it could be arrange in an optimal way that I would never obtained at home.

I express my intentions to my dealer and he sent one brand new unit in the color I wanted with the condition that I could listen to it and return it if I didn't like it.

Well I connected it and after listening to it for 2 minutes I decided it was a keeper.

If you are looking for something that is super strong "boom boom" where everything shakes probably this is not it. But for a really really strong-enough-otherwise-I-would-be-kicked-out-of-my-condo bass it really shines. And I am not talking about weak I am talking about enough to stand it a complete afternoon without having a headache.

I have it conected with a couple of BL3s and experienced what most people tells you, it can of liberates the bl3 of the bass in a way that makes them perform much better.

Re: B&W PV1 subwoofer add to 5.1 module of BV8-40?

Guys, thank you for your answers.

Mmmm, should be a problem to hear/test the different subwoofers in my living room.

We only have a small B&O dealer in town. Because he was not willing to pass some products for testing and of cause he refused to give any discount, I did not buy any equipment from him. In the past I ordered every B&O product from a dealer hundred of miles away. I know what I wanted and everything was fine.

Saw the B&O telly, speaker, Beosound in a shop. Tested them, read any information and opinons in the forum, ordered them. But with the subwoofer it seems not so simple.

So I`m not able to test the different subwoofers from B&O (BL2 and BL11) in comparison to B&W PV1 and Velodyne (e.g. MicroVee) in my living room. The biggest problem is, that I only have a small gap 33 x 40 cm to place the subwoofer in.

Only 33x40cm for a sub? The BL11 would fill the spot nicely :-)

i am in the exact situation. BL 8000's front and BL4000's rears. Trying to decide for the sub. Went to listen BL2 vs BL11 in three different B&O stores. BL11 makes no difference to my ears with BL8000's. It is 1500 euros thrown away. A total waste of money. So for me the best option is either a BL2 or a non B&O sub like the B&W PV1.

Then there must be something wrong with your setup... there's a clear difference with the BL8000 with or without BL11. And if my comments might be biased... ask my neighbors!

    Mmm,

only guys using the original Beolab subwoofers. Nobody using the PV1 with BeoLab speakers?

    Karol, BeoFab,

did you put the powerlink plug into the 5.1 setup of your Beovision or how did you setup the BL11.

yes, exactly like that. Powerlink to sub in the Beovision. In the bottom it has 5 tiny switches that you need to set up depending of the location of your sub and some other factors (by one wall, corner, free, etc.)

When I listen to music I use Speaker 2, when I listen to TV is use Speaker 3.

I`m using the 8-40 telly. If I`ll activate the subwoofer in the 5.1 setting of the Beovision, the 5.1 modul cuts all lower sound frequencies of my BL-8002 and the sound like cheap tin boxes.

I really think those of you who are recommending the BL11 as a home-theater sub are off your rocker.  It only goes down to 33hz-WEAK.  It's only 200W.  Good sub for extra base punch for music but not for home theater.  Go ask someone about it on avsforums and they will laugh at you.

BL2 is OK but a lot of people report some lag with music.

IMHO there is no perfect B&O sub for both music and Home theater.

I looked at the PV1 as an alternative and would buy it in a second over anything B&O makes.  I wanted something a bit bigger and something that would match my traditional style console so I went with the B&W ASW850.  It was their flagship sub at the time and pumps out 1000W with a 15" sub.  It freaking rocks.  Basically you will just by a powerlink to RCA adapter and you are good to go.

There is no problem using the PV1 or any other active powered sup out there with your setup.  Skip B&O for the sub and buy what you want.

Big Smile Yes I do know that and I don't take them seriously...but anyway I don't think 33Hz is the proper lower cutoff for a home theater sub...you will miss out on that deep deep base.

That is correct. That is suppose how it works. When you connect your new subwoofer (whichever you finally select to go with) the sound will come out from it, somehow "liberating" your BL 8002 for midrange and tweeter performance. That is exactly what happened with my BL 3s and BL 11 set up.

That is correct. My living room is 39 x 13 feet (around 50 square meters) and l live in a condo, the BL 11 is perfect. I remember when I was still trying to figure out if I wanted the BL 11 or the BL 2, the dealer invited me for a demo in a new condo that they had installed B&O in the model unit. The living room size was even bigger, the set up was a beovision 4-50 with BL 3s as fronts, 7-4 as center, rears were in-ceiling and BL 2 as subwoofer. Obviously in a demo they try to impress you (higher than normal volume) but this time it works backwards because I was impressed but by how loud and terryfing the sub was, I had to request them to please lower the volume. It really sounded like unbalanced, like too much sub for the rest ot the setup. That kind of power will not make you any friends among your neighboors if you live in a condo.

Re: B&W PV1 subwoofer add to 5.1 module of BV8-40?

    Macjonny1,

so to install for e.g. the PV1 would be the following procedure???

Original Powerlink cable (one plug each side), one side into the 5.1-module subwoofer connection of the 8-40. Other side adapter (powerlink to chinch/RCA), chinch/RCA into the subwoofer.

Adjust subwoofer setup at telly and subwoofer itself.

Done and have fun??? That`s the way it goes???
