    new BeoSound 4 software level

    Hi

Peter Pan just posted this in the Scandinavian forum ...

I can translate it and understand it

    my questions are:

    • is there a site/source where I can get future (and past, what am I already missing out on!) news items ?
    • is this a field upgrade, or does the BeoSound 4 have to visit its friends at a B&O dealer/service centre ?
    • is there an English version of the PDF available and prior issues as well ?

    Nye funktioner

    1. Kompatibilitet med SDHC-kort (High Capacity SD-kort fra 4 GB til 16 GB)
    2. Mulighed for at starte en optagelse fra fjernbetjeningen

    4. Muligheden for at gøre Timer optagelse på SD-kortet

You can download the B & O, s pdf file: Click here.

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

How is this software update done ?

Do you have to bring it to the dealer ?

Is it possible to retro-grade software, I namely heard that due to EU-regulations Timerfunctions are likely to be forbidden in the (near?) future ?

My dealer indicated this as I'm hesitating between BM5+BS5 (does not have a timer) and a BS4 (lots of timerfunctions), but I don't want that once in the future they block this timeroption. Even for instance the BV10 automatically goes in standby after 3 or 4 hours without receiving an remote control command.

The solution offered was having Beotimes lying around the place (not my idea of a solution).

Your dealer has to do this!

Even for instance the BV10 automatically goes in standby after 3 or 4 hours ...

Just switch it off in the customer service menu (Autostandby > OFF) Wink

Something to do with energy consumption and stereo playing uselessly maybe ?

Wondering if you guys know something about this ?

I think they want that timer functions are implemented using a second, less powerful power adapter, that will wake up the main system when needed.

Something that B&O has done for a while.

Anyway, it any directive of that kind would only apply to newly sold devices, so nothing to worry about.

It's nice to see that B&O are finally waking up and updating their products, I was wondering how long they would rest on their laurels..

Now I hope the whole BeoSound range will get the same update(s) (=BeoSound 2 + BeoSound 3 + BeoSound 6), otherwise it will add even more frustration to daily use: each BeoSound has different file formats for playback, different bitrates, and now different SD capacity standards.

Imagine recording music on your SDHC card on BeoSound 4 and then not being able to play it on BeoSound 3 ???Unsure

Or having WMA lossless files on your BeoSound 5/BeoPort and -still- not being able to play them on any current BeoSound, now that Serenata has been discontinued? No - thumbs down

B&O was taking great pride in saying that all their products spoke the same language, but for years now, it's been the Tower of Babel ..

    Necrothread!  Woo!

Anyway, how do we do the upgrade?  It can't possibly just be "take it to the shop."  Is it a chip that's replaced, like the BL3500?  Or some software that's uploaded?  If it's the software, then how do they upload it?  SD card?

I can't help wondering why B&O don't fit all BeoVisions & all BeoSounds with USB or Ethernet sockets to ease those software updates, it would make our lives so much easier, and give more time to B&O dealers for something more productive..Wink
