Sad [:(] Bad quality picture of integrated blu-ray in BV7-40

    Hello,

I just got a brand new BeoVision 7-40 with integrated blu-ray driver. I was badly surprised when I realized that the quality of the blu-ray picture of the integrated driver was not as good as the picture of an external blu-ray apparatus (Sony BPS-500). In fact the picture quality is just a bit above a regular DVD!

Did anyone have the same issue?

I'm wondering if I'm not going to exchange my BV7-40 with BRD for a BV7-40 without BRD (4000€ cheaper!) and keep my Sony BPS-500.

Is this really the case? For 4000e one would imagine the BR player to be of very high quality.

I didn't think the picture was any different from any other Bluray player personally but if you notice such differences with your own eyes then you should take the TV back and use your external player on a Mark III set. I use a Sony PS3 with a Mark III 7-40 and the picture quality is absolutly superb. Be interesting to hear what Chris (Moxxey) has to say about this as he had the Mark III then upgraded to the Mark IV. I know he noticed a difference on live HD channels but as for the Bluray DVD player, well I don't think there was much of a difference.

Note that on a Mark IV the picture quality of an external blu-ray player is just perfect, unlike the quality of the integrated blu-ray player of the same TV, which is just a bit better than a regular DVD.

I really don't understand how a 4000€ blu-ray player has such a bad quality picture!!!

I would give it back if the difference is that obvious. Maybe yours is faulty?

It doesn't, I can guarantee it :) I'm not saying the internal Blu-ray drive is better than, say, a PS3-based Blu-ray picture, but it's certainly no worse.

However....are you sure it's not a HDMI issue? The stupid 'internal' drive uses one of the HDMI sockets to show a HD picture. If there is a problem with the allocation of this HDMI socket, you see an image through the internal scart-type cable. ie. Blu-ray is downgraded as if it was going through a scart cable. It's still slightly better than an SD DVD, but not much!

I know this from experience - if I mess up my HDMI allocation when configuring the Sky HD box on my BV7-40 MKIV, the picture goes via the scart cable instead and it's inferior. Although it's not a 'bad' picture, it's definitely worse than via the HDMI cable.

I'd assume this is your situation - it's now showing Blu-ray via the HDMI cable. Either it's disconnected or not configured correctly.

    Very good point!

I will check this tomorrow and let you know if it was an HDMI issue, which led to a downgradation to a scart.

I feel stupid... because the HDMI cable of the internal blu-ray player was indeed disconnected when the TV was installed. The picture is now of blu-ray quality.

Thanks a lot for the advice!

    Case is closed!

Hi there - Can I ask how did you resolve this? When I check mine in the connections menu the DVD line is greyed out. Is there a way of knowing through the menus whether this is done correctly or not?

    Appreciate your help.

Well I just reconnected the HDMI cable to the internal plug. No need to go into a menu. The DVD is by default greyed out.
