BS9000 not switching on speakers ????

I have just purchased a BS9000 Limited edition, its approx 8 weeks old, they are connected up to a pair of Lab 8000, i went to turn the system on tonight and the speakers would not switch on, the red stand by light is staying on.

Being a sparky, i have tried various things: 1) Turn the mains power off to the speakers, wait and then turn back on

                                                                         2) Turn the power off to the BS9000, then back on

                                                                         3) I have noticed that the operation of the BS9000 still works, you can turn between radio / cd

But the speakers are not switching on, has any one come across this problem, can any body help me with this one please.

Hi, i have just tried that, and the speakers are still not turning on ??

the unit is in option 1 mode

Thanks for the help, could it be the switching side of the 9000, not sending a signal to the speakers, or a possible loose wire when they joined the two speaker cables togeather( Solder ) @ the 9000

Many thanks any way for the advice

ah... just how/why were these modded? have they been tested/have they worked before??? sounds a bit odd to me?

Re: BS9000 not switching on speakers ????

when they originally installed the speaker cabling, a cable was routed to each speaker, and at the 9000, they soldered the 2 x cables  togeather, and used only 1 output on the unit, this has been like this for 6 years, when they installed my previous BS3000, should this be o.k ??? Would there be any sound difference if i split the speaker cables @ the 9000, into 2 x outputs

Re: BS9000 not switching on speakers ????

Why solder 2 cables into 1 anyway - B&O have a splitter for that!

My guess is one of the soldered cables has split at the switching pin.  Try one fresh cable to one speaker first to test the BS9000...

Re: BS9000 not switching on speakers ????

    Good call Lee,

There are so many cable options available for Powerlink that it should rarely be necessary to join cables together on site.  I would suggest completely disconnecting the existing cabling (from both BS9000 and the speakers) and then trying one speaker at a time with a new, good quality cable.

I will be surprised if this doesn't solve the problem Wink

By the way, if you do still want to have both speakers run into one Powerlink socket via a "Splitter" cable, let me know and I can sort out a more robust solution for you.

    Best regards,

    Steve.

Re: BS9000 not switching on speakers ????

Thanks everyone for your help, have checked all the cabling and tested out, that seemed all ok, then i disconnected the speaker cables on each speaker, and cleaned them off, and switched the BS9000 back on, would you belive it, its all working ok, have had the system running for 1Hr now, and its seems fine. ( Fingers crossed )

Could it of been dust in the connections ???. Any way its put a smile back on my face now. music at last

    Cheers Martin
