HELP! Beosound 4000 / Overture Doors Won't open!

Hi, i can't get the doors to open on the beosound 4000 that I recently received from my parents.  i remember that if you wave your hand in front of it they should open but they don't.  it powers on with the remote and plays cd's fine.  is there a button on the remote that opens the glass doors?  is there something I can check or do to fix the sensor if it's gone bad?  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

     THANKS a million!

The light sensitive diode in these weakens with age - that could need replacing. There is also a lock code for the doors - anyone remember it?

Can you prize the doors apart manually? You should be able to. Do this with the mains disconnected. If you now connect the mains do the doors close?

The lubricant in the door mechanisms does dry out with age and it does not take much friction for the doors to stop working. I use silicon spray on a cotton bud to relubricate.

The doors cannot be opened with the remote, only via the sensors.

I can't find the lock code but if I remember correctly it is cancelled on standby or disconnection.

Re: HELP! Beosound 4000 / Overture Doors Won't open!

There is no lock code at Beosound 4000.

Lock code only avialble at Beosound 3000 and Beosound 3200

To lock and unlock only at standby SHIFT 90369

less than 2 sec. between pressing keys

This status might be stored also when get mains off.

Re: HELP! Beosound 4000 / Overture Doors Won't open!

thanks guys for the great responses.

    1.  I can pry open the doors open and the doors do shut automatically after a few seconds.

    2.  I do not believe it's a problem of jamming.  more likely a sensor.

     3. thank you for informing me that the remote cannot open the doors.  i'm assuming there is no button that I can press on the unit to open the doors either?

     4.  the price of after service in Korea (i'm in Seoul) is very expensive.  they charge 50 bucks for diagnosis and then charge by the hour plus parts etc... I had my beosound 9000 and becom 1401, 2500, and beolab 4000 looked at and each time i've paid way too much.  since this one was a present I didn't want to spend much on it.

     5.  any ideas on how to check if it is indeed the light sensor?  any ideas on how much the cost of replacing the light sensor would be?  is it something that I can do by myself by ordering the part online etc...?

     THANKS EVERYONE FOR ANY HELP~

Re: HELP! Beosound 4000 / Overture Doors Won't open!

Service agents in the UK charge using the same system. My local one charges £60 to look at the item but this forms part of the first hour. If it gets fixed in that hour then that is what you pay.

The test procedure for the sensors involves using an oscilloscope and is detailed in the service manual. I note that we do not have the Ouverture service manual on site but we do have the 2300/2500 and 3000 manuals on site which will be similar. The manuals are available for download to silver and gold members of this forum.
