    Beolab 4 as computer speakers

Not to babble on about how great Beolab 4s are as computer speakers, but I am just simply impressed by it's perfect balance of functionality, performance and aesthetic of Beolab 4 for computer use. In fact, I think it was designed designed for this purpose only.

Just take a look at how the tweeter is angled upwards like how a computer speaker should be and how well it performs at low volumes and the soundstage it throws right in front of you as nearfield speakers and, the way it picks up the most minute details. It is quite shocking. I bought Beolab 4s unheard because it seems to be the most practical quality computer speakers out there, first you can minus those subwoofers than usually comes with high end computer speakers whilst still occupying little desktop space.

I had very low expectations for these at first as most of you in the forum had come to a conclusion that they are bad loudspeakers. But having to be praised to have golden ears with a group of audiophiles recently by being able to distinguish the modified versions of amplifiers versus unmodified versions in a listening session. I must urge you guys not to cast these little gems as scrap metals.

BTW didn't someone in this forum say that there's gonna be a review on these loudspeakers in Hifi News or something? I am curious, what did it say?

    haha paragraphed.

Essentially the same good points you made, but with paragraphs.

I agree with you that the BL4s would be wonderful as computer speakers. I had planned to purchase a pair for just that use until my dealer offered me a pair of BL 4000s that had been on display in the store for only $800. Given that I was able to get the 4000s for less than the 4s I purchased the 4000s instead.

    Beovision 7-55 with Beolab 7-4, 9s and 4000s

    Beovision 10-40 with Beolab 1s and 6000s

    Beosound 1, 5, 2000, and 3000

BL4000 are great speakers. I even prefer them over my BL8000 in a medium sized room. Unless you add a BL2 to it, which I did. Then it's a different story.

    Dear All:

I've had the BL 4 attached to an iMac for about two years.  Before the BV 7 came in; I watched many movies on the 17 inch iMac.  The speakers performed well and on many occasions, I was surprised by the details coming out of the BL 4.

BL 4 make very nice computer speakers.  I am sure they would do well in a small linked-room.

    Enjoy,

Wow Razlaw seems like you got a pretty good deal. BTW are the Beolab 4000s as detailed or did it sound simply richer cos I have a pair too and it doesn't seem to sound as crisp. Also did you get any special converters or third party equipments for the Beolab 4000s to be installed to your computer? Maybe I will get the 4000s for my comp in the future when I move to NYC.

It has been awhile since I listened to the BL4s, but my recollection is the 4000s sounded better overall. I did get a great deal on the 4000s, although the grills had a couple of holes so I did order new grills, but overall price was still less than 50% and full three year warranty.

Initially I connected the 4000s to a computer just using the line in connection, then I upgraded to using  a Beoport box.
