Redline 140's (6501) OEM stand installation?

I just recently obtained a set of Redline 140's from eBay which came with original stands.  The seller disassembled the speakers from the stands, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to 'correctly' mount the speakers to the stands?

In particular, I'd like to mount the speakers vertically on the stands, but holding them up to the stand makes it seem like the speaker would be resting on the ground.

Are there two styles of OEM stand for the RL 140's?  Mine have twin square bars, like the photo in my next post.

If not, I must be missing some bracket which goes from the back of the speaker to the bracket on the stand... perhaps someone has a photo of the back of their Redlines and can show me how to mount the speakers to the stands vertically?

I looked in the 'manuals' section of the site but didn't see any install instructions for the stand.

The speakers look good - a little bit of fuzzing on the edges and a few scratches.  They sound horribly tinny with no bass - I'm guessing I'll be doing more research on here on how to replace/repair the woofers.  I'm sure they'll go well with my other B&O gear.

I'm new here to this site, and getting into owning B&O hardware... I've been a fan for quite some time and love their timeless Euro design, sound quality, and uniqueness.

(I had to repost this from my PC... my Mac with Safari v3 wouldn't show anything in the actual body of this message?)

Below is a photo sheet showing various mounting configs of the speakers... my stand looks like whats in the photos, but my speaker is almost to the ground when I hold it up to the stand.

I'm trying to mount it to look like photos 3 and 4.   Any help/suggestions?

Are you surethe stands are for RL140's?? The stands for RL60's look the same but are smaller in scale to suit the smaller speakers. When mounted on the stands can you slide the speakers much side to side? There wouldn't be much "play" in the correct stands but the speakers may slide on RL60 stands. I'm not sure if there any stand dimensions in the info section of the site but I could measure my RL 60 stands tomorrow.

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

Hopefully they are 140 stands... I just measured them:

From top to bottom of each side beam is 30cm.  Top of the black bracket to bottom of the stand is 41cm.  I laid them down to somewhat demonstrate the sizes in comparison.

These are the only pieces I got - no screws or other brackets...

i think puncher may be right. they look like they may be 45/60 stands! -seem awfully short for 140's...

i'll see if i can dig up some rl stand dimensions...

    ok, simple measurement:

1.) rl45/60 stand is same -horizontal "crossbar" length in front at floor level = 40.5cm

2.) rl140 stand is unique -horizontal "crossbar" length in front at floor level = 50cm

quick question: does the bracket even match up to the mounting area on the 140? if not, then they are most likely for the 45/60's...

    btw, welcome to beoworld!

From this picture I can say with certainty that they are the wrong stands. You have RL140 speakers and stands for RL45/60

RL140's have a good amount of thumping bass so you have a problem in that area as well. Probably foam rot. Should be obvious when dismantled.

Re: Redline 140's (6501) OEM stand installation?

I will try to find the original mounting instructions for my RL140s - but I fear you will need the correct brackets and also a mounting that fastens to the rear of the RL140 - used to attach to the wall or ceiling bracket.

Excellent speakers - if the bass sounds rough then they will almost certainly need to be refoamed - not difficult.

Re: Redline 140's (6501) OEM stand installation?

Thanks for all the suggestions, I set up my speakers on the RL60 stands and, even though they're resting on the bottom of the stand pretty much, they work in the vertical position with the lip of the bracket on the stand holding it in place.

I'd like to get some 140 floor stands, unfortunately my ceiling is wayyyy to high to handle celing mounts ;)  Thanks richtoy

I called the local B&O repair specialist - it'll be about $150/speaker to refoam the woofers.  I'd try to do it myself, but from what I read on here they're so precise with specs that I'd rather not risk destroying them... I guess it comes with the B&O territory!  Wonder if there's anything else I should have the shop do/check while it's in service.

Re: Redline 140's (6501) OEM stand installation?

As with all speakers, the speaker should be mounted so that the tweeter is at the same height as your ears when seated in your normal listening position.

For my RL60s, I originally wall mounted them so I didn't purchase them with stands. Later I purchased some speaker stands (non B&O) and adapted them to hold the speakers.

Since that time I have, on a couple of occasions, contemplated getting some 'proper' B&O stands from eBay but each time I have changed my mind as I don't think they look as attractive as mine. Although I do accept they are made for my speaker and probably more stable.

Actually, you can use the ceiling poles as floor mounts as well - just turn the bracket part around! Of course, you would have to screw them either to the floor or some kind of a stand plate Wink

$300 for the refoaming work doesn't sound too outrageous to me; there are four woofers, so it is a lot of work. You could also have the capacitors of the crossovers replaced while they are open, I hear it can be quite an improvement.

Hello minaviggen, you know, Mika is right when he says you can use the ceiling poles upside down, I have and my 140's look great!

    Hey Bud,

Do you have some screw or screw(s) on the back of the speakers?  They allow you to angle the speakers.  I finally figured out how to put together my speakers stands by trial and error.

Could you elaborate on how you managed to angle it? I'm going nuts trying to figure out how I'm supposed to get the speakers hanging at a decent angle!

When I hang the speaker on the floor stand, it points downwards towards the floor. I'd like for it to hang straight or maybe point slightly upwards, but without modding the stand I can't see any solution.

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Redline 140's (6501) OEM stand installation?

You should have a screw, around 60mm long protruding from the back of the speaker. This screw bears on the mounting bracket part of the stand and causes the bottom of the speaker to be lifted away from the stand and towards the listener.

Without the screw the speakers will look at the floor!

Thanks a million for your swift reply! I'll check when I get home tonite. There isn't any screw mounted, but if there's a hole I'll try putting one in it!

You are absolutely right, it worked like a charm! For reference, there are four holes, around the indentation at the back of the speaker, so that you can use the screw as a distance any which way you decide to hang the speaker on the stand.

    Of course I am !!

I bought a pair of these in 1986 and had them until around 2004/5. Very underrated speaker at the time but becoming more appreciated as time goes by.

Mine were on swivel wall brackets but the same mounting principles apply. The long screw was actually supplied with the speaker from new but of course have long since been discarded along with the mounting plates!
