Why Beo 5 instead of Beo4?

We are having a new BV7 delivered next week. I am trying to decide whether to have the dealer also deliver and program a Beo 5.

What advantages would I have with a Beo 5 over a Beo 4?

Our set up will consist of  BV7, Beosound 3000, and speakers in one room, Masterlink to another room with speakers and an Avant,

and Masterlink to Beoport and PC and speakers in a third room.

The only benefit I see over the Beo 4 is the use of icons for channels rather than remembering channel numbers (other than having another new B and O toy of course)

    Thanks!

Personally, I would prefer the Beo 5, with the Beo 4 I miss illuminated keys. I will not get a Beo5 though unless I get the software, might look at it when the Beosound 5/Beomaster 5 comes out.

In mine opinion: Take the BEO5 only if you can have the software to program it. Especially when you have some older B&O equipment there is a risk that your dealer can't do the job.

And if your trip to the dealer takes a lot of time: think twice.

But if you have the software; you will be happy with your BEO5.

I have the Beo5 and stopped using it.

It is nice to have the icons for the channels, but the rest of the operations requires more key press than the Beo4.

You also need to keep the Beo4 to hand anyway, as the Beo5 runs out of battery quite often and needs to be recharged.

If you have a sound system only, do not get the Beo5. If you have a more complex setup, with TV, a set top box controlled by a STB-c, if you can place the charger near the sofa, and it you love the look of the Beo5... then get one.

Thanks for the comments!  They sound like the the exact thoughts I was having after reading the manual. In particular the comment about distance to the dealer. My dealer is three hours away and while I am in town to visit them frequently, they say they need to come to my home to program the Beo 5.

Re: Why Beo 5 instead of Beo4?

I have both a Beo4 and a Beo5. The 5 is very clever and will do more than the 4 but for everyday use, you will find the Beo4 easier to use. It is not dissimilar to the situation with the Beolink 7000 and 1000. The 7000 was a brilliant remote but simply too complex for everyday use. I wouldn't want a beosystem 7000 without one but would always have another remote as well.

So if you like the Beo5, get it but get a Beo4 as well! I would see what sort of a deal your dealer will give you!

We already have 2 Beo 4s. Dealer wants $650 for Beo 5  plis $199 to program it at our house when the BV7 is delivered.
