    BeoLab 4000 - BeoSound 1 comparison?

    Hi.

I'm just wondering, which of the two ( BL4000 and BS1 ) produces a better sound? The BeoLab 4000 can be placed further away so the stereo image is better, but other than that, what's the difference?

Also, how big is the difference between the MKI and MKII ( ICEpower ) BL4000? When did they start making them ( which serial number onwards )?

    Thanks.

The 4000 is in a completely different class. The BS1 is a very clever portable system. But it cannot compete with the 4000s which are the hidden gem in the B&O speaker range. They changed to ICE power in 3/07. Easy to tell the difference as the power switch on the front was removed. In the AB version, it presses in and out to switch the speaker on and off. The type number changes as well. I have not listened to the ICE power ones for any length of time so don't feel qualified to comment on them. I have a nasty feeling they use the amps from the Beolab 4s which have some technical economies.

That's what I think too. People here on Beoworld always said, that Beolab 4000's were very good for their size and price. But when I heard them some weeks ago, I was really disappointed. It was the new version and I found they sounded like a tin box (maybe the combination of BL4 amps and the aluminum chassis).

I think the Beosound 1 should sound better than the "new" BL4000, but the "old" ones should be far better!

I have had both BL1 and BL4000 for a few years.  I completely agree with Peter.

I too have no experience with the "new" BL4000.

It would be a shame if "astrauch" was correct (i.e. that the BS1 sound better than the "new" BL4000).

Thanks everybody, it's good to know I didn't rush into the BeoSound 1.

    Re: BeoLab 4000 - BeoSound 1 comparison?

I don't know if the Beosound 1 is better, I just found it sounds warmer and more detailed. I can only say that for my taste the "new" Beolab 4000 sounds awful (worse than my BL4's). They may have better Bass, but my BL4's sound MUCH more natural.

For my taste the BS1 sounds very nice!

With the BL4000's bad sound you don't get any good B&O speakers under 3000€, which is sad.

My next speaker will be the Kef iQ9!
