    A dead Beocom 6000

I'm trying to solve a mystery about a dead Beocom 6000 handset.

I had this standing in it's charger/basestation for some time but after a while I needed the wall outlet for a lamp so I disconnected the power for the charger. Next time I touched the phone it was dead. I simply placed it in its charger for a couple of hours and tried to put it on.

It didn't work =( I tried with a new battery from another handset but it's still dead.

So, is it dead for ever? Any ideas what could be wrong?

Please come with a clever answer =)

    (It's a MK1 model)

    Best regards Ola

This is purely guess work based on the fact that the kind of batteries used in these are similar to those in mobile phones:

I had a pay as you go phone a few years ago that I had let run completely flat and did not use it for about a year. I put it on charge for like a couple of hours and it still refused to switch on. I left it charging for about three days (just left it on) and then it switched on again.

Perhaps it will work for you too?

    It's alive!

It's very strange because I left it in the charger before and nothing happened. But now it worked =)

It may have just been the contacts at the base of your handset or charger which need a clean Ola. I use the eraser at the end of a pencil sharpened to clean mine, works a treat.

    OK, now it happened again!!!

I powered of the phone and it wont start again. Its stone dead.

I tried to leave it in the charger for two days but its impossible to start it by pressing the power button.

Last time i woke it alive i just placed it in the charger without doing anything else, but it doesn't work this time.

Pleas come with your ideas! Every idea is welcomed!

    Regards

    Ola

Ola, You know the Beocom 6000 is not the same as a mobile phone, you are not supposed to let it go flat before you charge it.
It should be replaced in the charger when not in use, the onboard computer decides when to charge it and when not to.
I know this doesn't help  the present problem but bear this in mind when you get going again.
Have you got another handset that you could try swapping the battery with?

    Hi:

Yeah, to echo that statement and to clear up any confusion possibly caused by my last, the only similarities between this phone and a mobile is its power source - battery.

It sounds to me like you have damaged the battery by letting it go flat too many times. Thus, I would get another, fresh battery soon and charge/use it in accordance with the instruction manual - rule of thumb - don't let it go completely flat.

    Thanks

    Hi

Whats the procedure if you put your stuff in storage, will it not go flat and present the same problems?

    Hi all!

I have five handsets and I've tried to swap batteries between the handsets.

I've also tried to switch the front panel on the faulty handset to se if the power button is defect.

None of these switches resulted in a working phone.

I refuse to agree that the phone is "over and out" since i got it alive a month ago just by putting it in the charger.

    Very strange...

    Brian,

If you wish to put your phone in storage, then switch it off by pressing and holding the centre until it says "Powering off"

    Ola,

It sounds like your phone just has a faulty component and needs to be repaired.

As it is a Mark I you may wish to have it upgraded to a Mark II at a very small cost and it will still work on your Mark I charger.

Have a look HERE for details

    Regards Keith....

What would be my advantage of upgrading the MK1 phone to the MK2?

    Toby,

The key advantages of upgrading include:-

    • Several parts no longer available to fix Mark I handsets particular the board because the RF chip is no longer made.
    • The DOT button has a high failure rate
    • The menu is much easier to use
    • The CLI works in all situations including providing details of a caller when you are on the phone.
    • The display is in upper and lower case characters

    Regards Keith....

    Re: A dead Beocom 6000

    CLI?

Does this also mean that you can use the conference function?

Thanks for taking the time Keith.

    Toby,

CLI means "Caller Line Indentification" to you and me means it shows the callers phone number if it is not withheld. CLI was/is available in the Mark I version but did not work everywhere.

You can indeed use the "Conference Call" facility in the Mark II version.

I would say that the Mark II provides a much better user experience in terms of functions and daily use.

    Regards Keith....

How much is the upgrade kit? Is a new front panel included in the kit?

    Cheers!

My Mark I already has CLI and as for conference I was just thinking of my mother but then again she is mostly alone and probably will not need the conference option unless the cat decides to chime in on any of the conversations.

$70 sounds rather cheap for what is mostly a new phone.

I have found in general that the repairs to B&O I have had were more than reasonable thought a lot is down to our top notch dealer.

    Kind Regards Toby

    Ola,

The kit is about £55 (80 Euros) and includes everything in the picture including the front panel.

    Toby,

The Mark I does have CLI, but it does not work in all circumstances and does not detect an incoming call (call waiting) while you are on the phone and report who was calling after you have finished your current call.

In my view the kit is cheap and you get everything except the coloured back cover, battery, microphone and earphone.

    Regards Keith....
