    Is it a "Grüner veltlinger"?

I tastet a bottle for the first time, when I visit Vienna, half a year ago. It was nice.

Wasn't there a year when millions of gallons of Austrian wine was condemned and then used as antifreeze on airport runways, or did I dream it?

I have heard some thing similar, don't know from where though.

I am however sure that is a thing of the past.

    Hi Christian

Yes it is a "Grüner Veltliner" This varietal is quite common in lower Austria.. and quite good (if you like dry white wine).

The wine-grower I got this one from is a freind of mine... so no problem getting some Wink

If you come to Vienna again, drop me a mail!

    My favourites tonight are
    Flag, A8s, Beogram 4004 and Beosound 3.
If I win the 6500, I will donate it to Beoworld to be given in a future Prize draw.

    Good evening all,

Missed the prize draw last month as I was in Dublin for the weekend, but got a pleasant surprise when I got back in that I had won a Beo 5 remote. Fantastic piece of kit imo. Looking forward to following the draw tonight. Good luck everyone!

    Robert.

    Hi Andy!

No you don't dream... it was back in 1985 (I was 8 at the time), some wine-growers used the antifreeze "dienthylenglycol" and a large quantum of wine was dumped. A dark time for Austrian wine Sad

The results were strong regulations and controls that leaded to an increased quality.

It is alway a good thing to have a raliable source of good wine. One of the things I like most about travelling to Middle and South Europe is the local wine production.
