    which speakers. beosystem 6500

Having assembled a complete beosystem 6500, i need a pair of B&O speakers for it,  criterea is not too large but mainly must be cheap or at least good value for money, i am guessing passive unless there are any real active bargains to be had !!

    cheers Sandy

S120s - good well balanced speaker and usually cheap! Prone to foam rot.

I go a recommendation from Tim Jarman of the S80.2 speakers - have listened to a pair, and they are also very good.

But the Beosystem 6500 can easily feed the 120s.

S120's are an excellent choice. If you want a small speaker you could also try the CX100's. My parents use these with their Beosystem 5500 and are very happy with them.

The CX-100s are second-room speakers. The amplifier on a 6500 is of such good quality and so powerful that just using the CX-speakers is a real waste of an opportunity to enjoy real music. Anyone today who tried to build an amp to the quality of that in the Beomaster would charge you well over $10.000 for the final product.

The speakers should match. The CX-speakers are too tinny, and have no bottom.

Oops... You're right Soundproof. Embarrassed  I forgot that the Beomaster 5500 has a less powerful amplifier than the Beomaster 6500. You can forget about the CX-speakers and get a pair of S120's!

    Re: which speakers. beosystem 6500

Not so sure about this thread! The amplifier in the 6500/7000 is not bad but isn't one of the very best in my opinion. The 5500 amplifier is essentially the same. The pre-amp in the 5000 is actually rather nicer. I am not criticising it - I use a 5500 every day and have a 7000 as well -  they are all capable of driving any of the B&O passive speakers well though. CX100s are very nice bookshelf speakers - I have a couple of pairs and like them. I don't regard them as real hi-fi though!

Tim's S80.2s are nice ones - I gave them to him after Windows of the Arcade gave them to me! He has replaced the capacitors which has improved them no end. S120s have slightly extended bass. Very similar size but they have a bass port.
