need help: BeoVox Penta 1 crossovers

    hi,

Few weeks ago I bought a pair of BeoVox 1 Penta.  The drivers were replaced but not with the original ones.  The sound was OK and I was very happy with my ‘babies’.

However, yesterday one of the speakers was not audible, so I opened the Penta to verify the crossovers. It seems that someone repaired them! I would like to refurbish them but I don’t have any idea what I should do!  I attached a picture of the crossovers...

Any help will be highly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    constantine

PS…anyone has an idea why the resistor R3 was set to 0 Ohm?? What was the resistor R3 value??

I cant see your pictures, but have a look at this thread:

    http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/thread/43004.aspx

It is in german at first, but goes over to english after a while. Big Smile

The resistor is probably set to 0 ohm in an effort to boost treble. Some people seem to like the speakers that way. Haven't tried it myself, though. I just finished replacing all the capasitors in the crossovers of my mk2 Pentas today. Very satisfied with them! Party!!!

Edit: I looked up the resistor. R3 is supposed to be 1.8 Ohms. (for the Beovox Penta type 6611, at least)

    thanks for your answer!

I wonder what kind of capacitors and resistors have you used in your crossover?

Me I'm thinking to buy Solen components (+ - 5% tolerance) this week and replace them friday!

I'll let you know whether or not the sound has changed!

Concerning the pictures, it seems that the moment the moderator moved the post, the pictures dissapeared!

The pictures are still available, just tested this moment. It was never moved by the moderator...

Use MKT or MKP caps... non magnetic, that's more important than the tolerance ;) But 5% types are usually non magnetic :)

    Hey Constantine,

I'm not sure whether you already got around to changing the caps, but I just wanted to second your choice on the Solen caps.  Many diy speaker builders have said that Solen makes great caps for the price, and that going with anything more expensive is usually not worth it.  I haven't gotten my Pentas yet, but when I do those will be the caps I use on the crossovers.

Re: need help: BeoVox Penta 1 crossovers

I haven't changed my resistors. For the caps i bought a kit with normal non-audiophile caps from Martin Dillen. Reasonably priced (about £35 if i can remember correctly), and not at all bad. Smile
