    MX 6000 set up question...

    Smile

Yesterday I received an MX 6000 with a Beo 4 remote.  The couple I bought it from told me they had the tuner changed to NTSC when they moved to the USA from Denmark.  So...I hooked up my satelite receiver to the cable input and I cannot seem to get it thru to the screen.  It picks up some "over the air" local stations fine.  With my MX 5000 NTSC I just use the  satelite thru the cable input and set the tv for channel 3.  The MX 6000 has "frequencies" like a radio that tune in the channels.  So I scanned all frequencies on B\G and K for the channel 3 equivilent, but it does not find it.  In the mean time I can watch satelite thru the AV1 port.  All I press on the Beo 4 is the VTAPE.

Also, how does one activate the AV2 scart port using a Beo 4?  Ideally I would like to watch satelite thru the cable port, DVD thru AV1, and Video Tape thru AV2.  Possible?

     All advice appreciated!

Hm, well, first, you really don't want to watch a Satellite signal re-modulated over Channel 3. It will be in Mono, and you'll lose a lot of video quality. Instead, hook up the S-Video Out from the back of your satellite decoder box into the S-Video In on your MX. And get a SCART to RCA adaptor to accept the stereo RCA cables (white and red) for audio.

In this situation the NTSC tuner is, as you note, mostly useful to pick up terrestrial signals or basic unencoded cable if you have it.

Thank you!  I guess what I need to do now is find another Scart to RCA for the AV2 for the DVD player.  So if I had regular cable or a good antenna, would it tune in thru the coax connection?

Re: MX 6000 set up question...

Yep -- check out http://shopping.yahoo.com/ for people selling cheap RCA to SCART converters. Usually under $10. The MX6000 won't accept S-Video over SCART (there's a separate port for that) but it does no harm to have a converter that handles S-Video.

Because the previous owners of the TV swapped out the tuner, yes, you should be able to tune unscrambled cable and regular broadcast over it. However as you point out the software sort of seems to presume the Euro system where you have to tune in every channel. I own a MX6000 myself in my American house, but I haven't swapped out the tuner yet so I don't know how exactly it's supposed to work. One thing to note is that some versions of the tuner only allow mono sound, more recent ones allow stereo.

Hey there...I'm pretty sure it is receiving mono on the "over the air" channels.  I upgraded to Gold membership, so I will have a look at the owners manuals to fiqure out the bugs.

    Thanks for help!
