Anyone got any idea why my lovely Beosound 3 would just stop working - it seems to be the power supply/battery holding charge.  it generally sits by my bed and is used as an alarm clock for the mornings.  It is used occasionally round the house on battery but usually returns to the bedroom for recharging.

When the mains power is unplugged - there is no power in the unit (not even the small stand-by red led).

When the mains power is conected I have to rest the time, and then it beeps/clicks

 any thoughts please, have owned the unit from new (approx 20 months)

Go back to your dealer, it is still under warranty.  There have been various issues with Beosound 3's and you should get it rectified before the warranty runs out.
