    macbook to B&O

Good day all, my olde 3300 beomaster cuts out, and when I select radio mw/lw/fm, I hear a hum echo through the speakers. The system was packed away for seven years and never did this before. So, if I cannot find an answer then I need a new amp to compliment all 4 RL140 speakers, but I really want?????is to hook up my Macbook/iTunes to whatever i get.. Clues to the hum/cut out please, and any info on Macbook (3.5mm jack) to amp.

    regards, beo........................

    Beo:

You have a number of solutions and options available, but first one question:

Do you download using ITUNES, Beoplayer,  or use another recording form and service ?

The hum echo could be from a number of sources, including the line connection from the 3.5 mm mini-jack itself, proximity to another electical source, etc.

I would perform a little fault-tree analysis first by unplugging everything, including the mains, examine all parts for poor contacts, loose wires, loose sheathing, plugs, dust, debris on the inside of the units, including the speakers. Then let the master unit warm up for a bit alone. Then turn it off and then reconnect your cables, and bring it up slowly, and see if you can identify and isolate the source of the problem.

Coo! all good stuff, actually opened and cleaned with air cleaner, and saw nasty stuff around two capaciters size of DD batteries. So me friend say" switch power on and off helps recharge/re-think capaiciters". So you are right, Turned off and back on (2-3 times) all is good.. Playing from a Sony 400cd jukebox..

Have not yet found a way to connect my Macbook to 3300????

Good to hear to clean-up improved things for you.

Old capacitors can be one of many problems: I've replaced many in Olde B&O. Lowe, Grundig, and Zenith Transoceanic shortwave radios over the years.

On MAC to B&O connection possibilities for you: A)  Mini-jack out - > to B) DIN cable combination, using TAPE or PHONO inputs. If your unit has RCA inputs, then try a Mini-jack out - > RCA cable combination. I just experimented doing both using an older Beomaster 1900 and 2400, which worked.

B&O can provide both types of cables connectors.
