Hello friends

could use your help/suggestions here, my lovely very reliable V8000 sadly became unreliable and died (now beyond economical repair - according to B&O) although I may ask around to see if it can be given a transplant to save it.  So what do I replace it with? I have DVD1 and may consider selling on e-bay if the suggestions lead me that way.  Having read the posts on DVD2 Vs HDR2 should I opt for one of these or both? or is there another alternative? Topfield 5800 PVR?

ps have stacks of videos that I don't really want to ditch - as they are useful for the kids, would be great to copy them to harddisk

Have a talk to Tim Jarman at www.beocentral.com who can either fix your V8000 or suggest an alternative. He has just fixed my VX5000 and your V8000 should be child's play by comparison!! I would consider Sky+ for time shift recodings and a VCR for archive recordings. The Topfield is a good suggestion if you don't want Sky.

Get the V8000 repaired - definitely!

Very basic internally from what i can see, and the first time i cracked the lid off one i could almost picture enough room for 2 more inside!

VX7000 would be my choice,the mech in the '8000 is a "tonka toy" by comparison.Even better is the VX5000,although many of the features are not available when used with current product.A late model one would be best,or one that has been serviced,particularly with attention to capacitor "issues" etc.The '7000 is twin speed,but both machines will integrate into a Beolink system(via a B&O tv),for both audio and video recording duties

If used with a modern TV, the VX5500 is probably the one to have as it loses the complex electronic toys but keeps the level controls and drop down front. The VX5000 is a real marvel though! If you want all the clever bits to work, you need the external sensor or an old set though!
