    Beocenter 2 and surround

    Hiyas,

I was looking at the Beocenter 2 and I'm confused... does it or does it not have surround sound built in?  I looked at the manual and it appears to be just stereo.  It claims to be the complete entertainment center for the living room on the web page and there is a part that says that it'll activate all of the speakers in surround mode but... is that only with a B&O TV that has a surround module?

Yes it's only with a b&o TV with Surround module, no use for surround with no TV Smile

There is a use for surround without a B&O TV however... =)

I agree, however this is how B&O forces people to buy their tv's or bs3 if they want surround sound with B&O speakers/stereo. I had to buy a BS3 for this. :(

    Not completely true.

The BC2 have a standard S-PDIF digital out as far as I remember.

This can be connected to any Sourround amp or receiver with Dolby Digital (AC3) or DTS.

Hmmm... in that case I could just get a Harmon/Kardon with pre-amp outs and hook some speakers up that way and keep my BS4... Although I couldn't link them all...

Does the BS3 work with ANY panel or only certain ones?  I have a 42" Toshiba LCD that I would hook it up to.  Okay yeah I know... 2000 euro TV in a 6000 euro BS3 but whatever...  I also play my $3000 guitar through a $250 amp!

    Re: Beocenter 2 and surround

B&O own plasma displays are all Panasonic, so it naturally works better with that - however there are several users in here who are using a BS3 with other plasmas as well and also some with LCDs. Since the new BV7-40 now comes with an integrated BS3 (correct this please if it is wrong) I suspect that B&O has software updated the BS3 with changes that improves integration with LCDs and not just Plasmas.

When all that is said there are several cases where the image quality deteriorates with a BS3 connected instead of going directly from the source to the TV, so my advice would be to try it out. Go to a dealer and convice him do a demo setup with your tv. Either bring the BS3 home to your environment or take the TV to him.
