Re: Bang Olufsen official site has stolen my picture
I think I'd mention to them that a pair of Lab 9's would be suitable recompense

Re: Bang Olufsen official site has stolen my picture
I would ask for a proper pair of Beolab 5's if they had stolen my pictures . Offcourse it's cool that they've used your photo's, but they really have to shame themselfs that they didn't ask for permission...

I wouldn't mention the merchandise, let them make an offer first - after all you're a profeshnial. btw - I only asked for Lab 9's to appear reasonable - I didn't want to appear opportunistic

I would not be flattered in your position, especially as you are a professional photographer. I think a letter/ email should be written.

I bet you sat up in your chair when you saw that one, Anders!! Go the whole hog mate. Tell them you will happily photograph the new BeoSound/System/Center5 when it comes out as long as you can keep it. Andy T.

I am astounded they would not look into the owners identity before publishing the photos. The backlash could be a great embarassment both legally and financially. I'd go full pelt at them if they they mine. Jonnie

Tricky. I happen to know they are very careful about not using materials they don't have the right to. Did you post the image on their web-site? If so, did you read the statement concerning content there? http://www.bang-olufsen.com/page.asp?id=63

Re: Bang Olufsen official site has stolen my picture
Wow, did they really use it completely without your permission? I mean had you not posted it on their site as soundproof said? If this is really so then as the others said I'd definitely contact them and ask for some compensation or at least some kind of credit/acknowledgement. If they just say they'll take down the picture then point out that they've already benefited from the advertising and that can't be undone. soundproof:Tricky. I happen to know they are very careful about not using materials they don't have the right to.
Yes, I imagine B&O as a company wouldn't do this, but I wouldn't be surprised if their web designer did this without the company knowing.

Re: Bang Olufsen official site has stolen my picture
Had a look at your Photo Album page at the B&O site, Mr. Anderson. Your photo is there, and they can use it as they wish ... http://www.bang-olufsen.com/Community/photos/photo-thumbnails.asp?albumid=102 All corporations that allow uploads of content from community members have pretty waterproof wording as to the display and use of such content, and I don't think you'll get far. As my father likes to say: Always read the fine print. I think your thread title should be: B&O really liked my picture.

Nevermind - why not hang full-size photo's of Lab 9's where you would have stood them if B&O had used a picture of yours that you hadn't already posted on their site Sorry

Re: Bang Olufsen official site has stolen my picture
So the anwser is, you should be flattered. That is an amazing picture by the way. Maybe you qualify for a page in the next magazine. And they should pay you a commission to be fair. When I saw your picture of the BV8 I became more interested, took delivery last weekend.

Re: Bang Olufsen official site has stolen my picture
well I don't know. There are numerous examples of made up law not being watertight. Just because they've typed it on their website doesn't make it law - depends on the amount of trouble you want to go to. As a pro though you'd expect at least a proper credit and as a pro who's a B&O enthusiast I think you deserve better. Are there any legal experts about?! Simon

Re: Bang Olufsen official site has stolen my picture
I've spent quite a bit of time buying artwork for commercial use during the years, and even creating some. Rule number 1 - don't disseminate materials you wish to have copyright protected without properly labeling them as such. In this particular instance, it's not a matter of made up law, but of an entity protecting itself using extant laws. I personally feel that B&O should have gotten in touch with Mr. Anderson nonetheless, if only to inform him that the image would be used. But they have protected themselves quite solidly with that statement - succinctly put: post it, we can do what we want with it. I'm certain that if he gets in touch with B&O they'll remove the image, but then I'd also recommend that he remove all his uploaded images if their use gets him in a tiff. Though rather than taking the attitude that B&O have stolen his image, he might want to offer his services as a photographer of B&O, based upon the self-promotion that his uploaded images constitutes. (I think he has the most uploads on the official site of any contributor.) The internet is not the best container for content you wish to protect. If they had taken the image from his personal or other promotional website, where it was clearly stated that the content was protected, then he'd have a case. But by posting it at their official site, on BeoWorld, (elsewhere?) he has released the image to the public.

I'd definitely get in touch with B&O and offer your services Anders. You're a world class photographer, and a very nice guy - so how could they not be interested in working with you?!! I have met the chap in charge of the B&O website, and he's also a really nice guy - very approachable and pleasant, so who knows.. maybe an excellent relationship can follow! Lee
