    Beolink 5000 remote with...

    Smile

Hi!  Will a beolink 5000 remote work with a Beosound 2000/Century?  What about an MX 5000.  I think I remember reading here that you "update" your MX 5000 to an MX 5500 with a simple component change.  Is that component still available, and does it have a part  #?

    Any thoughts?

Yes it will work but you need to set it to audio one way with the Century/2000. No idea about the conversion of the MX - sorry!

I am always willing to be proved wrong but I cannot believe that you can simply upgrade a MX5000 to a MX5500. They are a completely different chassis with the former being a Thompson and the latter a genuine B&O design. To my knowledge, none of the bits are interchangeable. Nobby will know for sure.

From the reference to Beosound 2000, is this a US MX5000 we are talking about? Very different model I believe.

You are right. It can not be done. You mention that the chassis are diffetent. That is right = much different. The MX4500 & MX5000 are a Thomsen "box" chassis where as the MX5500 are Bang & Olufsen's own and own built single pcb plate chassis 39xx. Also inside the television there is not the same room, and the picture tube are not alike.

Note that the LX5000 are not simuler to MX5000 (diffenent age).

Good point Peter. Do you think that the US MX5000 is actually some sort of 5500 chassis?

Hi. The US MX5000 is a type 325x and is not like the European version type 321x, and it is not an MX5500. The European version was an Thomsen, but the US version an Hitachi. It was not produced in Denmark, but with a Hitachi plant/supsuplier in USA. B&O no longer has any spareparts or service manuals for it. So it is difficult to make changes.

I think what you have seen/read is that you can update an MX4500 to an MX5000... Not 5500!
