    Beogram 1200 Type 5214 Series 14

Can anyone help?  I have just inherited the above unit and had hoped to substitute it for my

much loved Beogram turntable of approx the same vintage but which has long been U/S.  I was assured this replacement unit was in full working order but no susk luck!  Now unlike 'my' (later) version this unit has space underneath which it appears is intended to house a pack of six pen-torch type batteries.  Can anyone give me some guidance as to what if anything I can do to replace these or some alternative substitute.

At a guess, that is the space for the optional RIAA amplifier. You don't need it if you have an amplifier with a dedicated Phono input.Very clever feature but the deck works fine without it.What doesn't work?

Many thanks for your reply.  Essentially the turntable fails to spin although I can hear a whirring noise from within!  Might it be a failed turntable drive belt? If so is it still possible to source a replacement and how does one gain access?  But also there is no reaction to any of the controls!  Needless to say I will be most grateful for any help/advice you are able to offer.

Many thanks for you quick responce.

It does sound as if the belt is off! The service manual is not on site - yet! I have an original and will scan it in asap! Rather a good one! Martin can possibly get you a belt - it is a round section one. It may well just have fallen off though! Could be inside!

Have now had a look from underneath. The belt is in position but has clearly lost its stretch and will need to be replaced.  You mention 'Martin' - how do I get in touch with him? (as you may have gathered I am a relative new boy to Internet use!).

Again, many thanks for your (almost instant!) response.

My fault! Martin is also known as Dillen on site. He features quite a lot on site and is a moderator. Send him a PM (personal message) and I am sure he will help. Busy  scanning the manual as we speak but you may not need it. You would have to be a silver or gold member to download it so I would wait to see if Martin can help first.

Sadly, I don't have that belt.

I seem to remember that B&O had a production run some time ago, it may be worth asking them.

If B&O fail to come through with a belt, try eBay item 120194943994 from Roland Meyer. I've bought from him before, no problems, even accepted PayPal after emailing first.

    Good luck,

    Steve
