Does anyone have a lead on where I might locate a truly nice Beogram 4000 dust cover with aluminium trim panel plus hinge? My control panel came off in shipment and rendered the dust cover beyond realistic repair. Thanks. Jeff

Thanks for the tip. I watch eBay daily.

I can probably wet sand the cover to an acceptable level, but I have yet to tackle my only mildly scratched 4004 dust cover. The control panel took chunks out of the plastic and that is too much for wet sanding to remove. Still, I could make it better with a bit of effort.

I will keep an eye out on ebay as you suggested.

Jeff, if you are thinking of using wet'n'dry, please, please try it on a similar plastic. I very much doubt if you will achieve an acceptable finish.

As a tip, we use very, very fine grade 'car body scratch remover' at LifeStyle AV, then a good quality auto cut/wax as a middle polish, then a fine wax for the 'top coat'.

Takes a long time, but the results are good.  Look at the BeoGram 6500 in Silver/Black for an example.

The wet sanding that I referred to is using EXTREMELY fine sandpaper. I start with 8,000 grit sandpaper and go to 12,000. Even so I am not completely satisfied with the results on my Beogram 4002….. hence my reluctance to start on either the 4004 or the badly damaged 4000.

 

Being a car buff, I tried several car polishes to limited effect.

 

I also went to a Plexiglas specialist who swore that Novus #2 Scratch Remover would do the trick. It didn’t. I mean it helped, but the wet sanding kit proved better.

 

I have heard that a good Plexiglas shop can do wonders with a buffing wheel on a dust cover, but I have visions of an 18 year who doesn’t like his job polishing away on my Beogram 4000 dust cover and that scares me to death. I could take the shop my Beogram 8000 parts turntable cover and see what they can do with it. If they make it look new, I might risk having them tackle the 4004 and 4000 dust covers.

 

We’ll see.

I'm another with a trashed 4004 lid.

 I doubt I'll ever be able to replace it - the hinge is actually snapped off - but the turntable's sweet enough that I'm using it anyway, lifting the whole, ugly, damaged thing off each time I need access to the deck.
