    BS3+RS232 confused

    Hej,

According to the BS3 service manual the RS232 cable used to connect my Panasonic plasma to the BS3 should be crossed (2>3, 3>2, 5>5) but the cable that I'm using at the moment is one on one (straight) and seems to do the work. Do I misunderstand something, did I do a wrong measurement or is it a fault in de service manual (not likely)?
I need to buy a longer cable or make it myself but I don't have a clue what it should be.
What kind of cable or you using to make it work. Anyone using the original B&O cable?

    Thanks!
    Stefan

Yes, the manual is correct - can't understand why your cable works!

I'm using the orginal B&O cable with my Panasonic TH-50PH10, unfortunately I needed a gender changer to make it work. Switch on and off works, but nothing else (like contrast or size adjustment) strange....

    Re: BS3+RS232 confused

Any idea how this original cable is connected internally?

I had exactly the same problem during my installation, on/off worked but no autocontrast. I 'tricked' the system by telling it is a BV4-50 D9 while my screen is a Pana 42" D9 and now everyting is working as it should be. Strange!

Today I have been told by our IT guys that it shouldn't matter if the cable is crossed or straight. In some cases there is a build in RX/TX switch which looks at the input what is received and what is transmitted. The electronics should know what to do with it.

    Thanks for the input!

I bought BS3 on its own to run with my panasonic and could neveer get to control anything other than on - off no matter hwat the configuration.

So i gave up and bought bv4 panel. Has anyone been able to connect a panasonic screen and control auto contrast, colour, conrast ect via the beo 4

    Re: BS3+RS232 confused

I initially had a straight serial cable connected between my BS3 and my Panasonic and it changed the settings dynamically (demonstrated by shining a torch on the sensor) but since the latest SW upgrade all it does is on/off. After having both scenarios, I prefer it not to control the screen as it always seemed to make the picture too dark. I'll probably end up with a BV4 at some point so I can live with it for now.

    Max.

My B&O is in my Bio.

    Re: BS3+RS232 confused

Sorry, but I forgot to mention the most important. I have changed the setting 'Monitor autodetect' in the customer service menu to 'No' in order to make the autocontrast work with the Panasonic. Shortly after this change I got the message 'Safe mode' on the screen but after resetting the BS3 this message dissapeared. Maybe you can try this to make it work.

I also noticed that the screen became darker but at the moment I'm doing some tests with the BV9 autocontrast sensor which is more sensitive in my opinion. It looks better but now I have to build this sensor into the existing BV5 holder.

BTW, I'm building my own BV5 HD or a 'baby' BV9. I ordered a lot of BV5 spare parts, bought a broken Avant using the motorstand and speakers/amplifiers, a Panasonic D9 and a BS3. Everything works but I still have to make my own +/-20V power supply and a delay circuit to make the center speaker work without the 'plop'.

    Still some work to do...

This is sometimes true for ethernet devices, but is not the case for RS-232.
