    BS4+BL4+LCD Setup and sub?

I am using my BS4 connected to a pair of BL4 to listen to Radio and Music on SD card (at least i will again in the future, when the card reader is fixed) and I also have my 37" LCD connected as A.Aux to the BS4 to watch TV and movies, play Wii etc.

Now the problem is the bass. Actually the BL4 have a good sound, they lack of bass quite a bit. So what i tried is an active sub which i connected to the aux out of BS4. Then i had bass, but could not really regulate it, because it's alsways the same volume. So when the movie was quite silent, then the bass was too strong, and the other way round when the sound was louder. Okay, it is possible to regulate the sub manually with a little knob, but that can't be the solution. So i disconnected the sub again.

So my question is now, what to do. A BL2 is much to strong i think, isn't it? And i don't know any other subs from B&O. So what is your suggestion on this? Some 3rd party sub? And if yes, how to connect this in order to have it work well?

    Re: BS4+BL4+LCD Setup and sub?

Swap the BeoLab 4s for BeoLab 4000s, 3s or 8000s! Same cost as buying the sub, but it'll sound better than BeoLab 4s + a sub.

BeoLab 4s are great as link speakers, and great for rears in a small surround sound setup, or for use either side of a computer, but they are not very suited to hifi use. BeoLab 4000s are vastly more capable all round as speakers.

    Re: BS4+BL4+LCD Setup and sub?

Okay, then let's make a price comparison here

(Swiss Francs and Official Swiss Prices)

    BeoLab 4: CHF 2x 850.-
    BeoLab 3: CHF 2x 2'310.-
    BeoLab 2: CHF 1x 4'190.-
    BeoLab 4000: CHF 2x 1'520.-
    BeoLab 6000: CHF 2x 1'975.-

So in that case, the Lab 4000 & 6000 would actually be same or a little lower price, the Lab3 are more expensive. Hm.... what to do
I think tha Lab2 is to strong anyway, isn't it?
Actually i did buy the Lab4 because they where not that expensive, and i had (ad have in mind) to use them as surround speaker later, or for my iMac.
So what about the 6000? Not that good in bass?

    Re: BS4+BL4+LCD Setup and sub?

There are plenty of 2nd hand 4000's, 6000's, 8000's. Beolab 3's are harder to get cheap. Definitely consider used 8000's too.

    Re: BS4+BL4+LCD Setup and sub?

The 6000s are good, but they are more of a compromise between style and sound, while the 4000s, 3s or 8000s will perform better for the price you pay.

4000s, 3s or 8000s are the best choice, the 3s and 8000s are more comparable, while the 4000 is a significant step down from the other two (although still great speakers).

    Thanks for your input!

Yes, i think i will do it by exchanging my Lab4s with 4000s or 8000s or 3s.

About the 4000s, i am not sure about the mounting options. I have my lab4s now on a sideboard each. So the sideboard is around 40cm wide. Can i just put the 4000s onto the sideboard? Or need they something like a rubberring like the 3s?

    Re: BS4+BL4+LCD Setup and sub?

There's nothing stopping you from just placing them on the sideboard, but there are some little feet you can get for the 4000s which sit them at a slight angle.

    Re: BS4+BL4+LCD Setup and sub?

Ah yes, thanks. I just saw them on the B&O site.

Well, it's hard to tell if i can/will use them. I think if i get the 4000s, i will place them as they are first. And if it shows that i want to mount them differently, i can always do.

Hm, but the 8000s are very beautiful as well.... argh..

    Re: BS4+BL4+LCD Setup and sub?

If you can afford the 8000s, then go for them! They really do sound fantastic when set up correctly. Of course they are some of the most beautiful speakers yet made.

When it comes to setting them up, we'll give you a hand in how to place them correctly. They tend to be a bit boomy if you place them incorrectly. However when you do get them as they should be, they are bliss!

    Re: BS4+BL4+LCD Setup and sub?

Daniel, if you can afford BL8000, I would recommend you to carefully evaluate them in comparison with BL3 before taking decision. BL3 (with the stand) is almost the same price as BL8000, but if you problem now is lack of bass, then BL3 may be a better option. I have the both speakers, and in my opinion BL8000 are more likely to require a subwoofer support than BL3. Besides, BL8000 is a very special speaker in terms of design and its appearance will heavily depend on your room interior, while BL3 will easily fit most apartments. I also think that visually BL3 would match BS4 better.

Simply ask the dealer to bring the both speakers to your place and compare them.

    BV7-40, BC6-26, DVD2, BCordV8000, BS4, BS2, BS Ouverture, BC9500, BM8000, BCord9000, BL8000, BL6000, BL2, BL3, BVox4500, BCom6000, Beomedia1, BCom5, Serenata

    Re: BS4+BL4+LCD Setup and sub?

Yes, it's hard to decide between Lab3 and Lab8000. Well, i have to think over it anyway, because i can't spend that money right now. But i think, that thinking over a bit about this won't be wrong.

What i know for sure is, that it won't be a Lab2, and also no Lab6000.

I like the design of 8000 and Lab3  very much. But you are right beodim, the Lab8000 will probabely affect the room quite a lot, where the Lab3 are more like the Lab4 in this case.

Good idea to have them both brought to the appartment for a comparison, but as you know the problems i have with my dealer, i don't think this will be possible.

Anyway, i will keep you all updated what it is going to be, and how my decision process works

And Alex, i will come back to you for sure when my decision goes to the Lab8000.

Now first, i have to go to my dealer anyway because of my BS4 (other topic), and then i will look at the speakers in reality. Sometimes this helps.... or not..

    And later, we will see..

Well in the mean time you can get a Power link to RCA connector so you can use the kikinoko sub

A good idea too! As it will last about 6 months until i can get new B&O speakers, this seems to be a good option in the meantime. So where can i get such a connector? B&O dealer?

Get a home demonstration of the 3's and 8000's

I hope a demo at home will be possible, yes.

So for the meantime i will connect my HK Sub to the BS4. Now just to be on the safe side: Do i have to connect it to a powerlink socket or to the "Aux out" Cinch socket? Whats the difference between them?

    Re: BS4+BL4+LCD Setup and sub?

Yes you can get them from your B&O dealer, you can not use the AUX because it's a Line out (Plays at full volume all time)

You need to use the Powerlink because there the line signal is adjusted by the volume button, you will also need a Power link splitter to be able to connect it all

Thanks, that's what i needed to know. So then i will hook my HK Sub to a Powerlink adapter and see how this sounds

    Re: BS4+BL4+LCD Setup and sub?

An issue you may encounter is that the Powerlink to Line adapter only carries one channel, and not both, although I may be wrong with this.

Ah is there one which has both channels connected? This is something I'm not sure about, so I'm probably causing unnecessary fuss!

The cable used for AUX connection Din to RCA, that is possible to get with 4 RCA plugs 2 for input and 2 for output this can also be use in a Power link connection. I think the one you think of is the line-in cable for BL3.

    Re: BS4+BL4+LCD Setup and sub?

    Update here:

I went to my dealer today to get the right cable for my sub. Oh yes, you know which dealer i mean...

And it came out like i more or less expected: They told me that such a cable is no problem, they gave me one that did look quite right, i paid it and got home. So far so good. But now, that cable is a standart DIN to RCA cable and does not work with my B&O. Of course, i can plug it tinto the Powerlink socket, but thats all, nothing works. GREAT! And the dealer did tell me that it will work with B&O with no problems etc. Really BAD!  So i am now really frustrated about my dealer who obviously does not know anything about B&O.

Luckily i remembered then of a little B&O shop that is not to far away, so i though: I will give this one a chance and see how this comes out.

I got there, was greeted warmly and then i explained how i want my setup. So they told me, that such cables are not availeable "as is", but that they can solder one for me if i want. Well, i will try to solder it myself first, i think i will succeed. But they really informed me good, and one guy did even draw me a connection scheme for the different PINs of the socket. Really nice! And they even gave me an "empty" Powerlink socket where i can solder the wires to, so that i have a "normal" socket in the end, and not a "do it yourself" one. Really nice of them! And what did all that cost? Nothing. No cent. Thats a surprise for me. So i think i now found my B&O Dealer

Yes, some cool solderwork is waiting

I don't need the Y cable for my sub, i need it because i want to change the place of my BL4, and don't want to run two wires.
