    Beoport and Windows 2003 Server

    Hi all,

as I'm getting a beosound 9000 MK III soon, I would like to know if it is possible to use a Windows 2003 server with beoport instead of a normal pc. The server is already running 24h, so there would be no need to keep a second machine running.

As far as I understand Beoport streams music over masterlink to a compatible audio system.

How does everything else work ? Does it work like streaming videos/music from a nas ? I currently have this windows 2003 server and a playstation 3 to stream movies from the server to my tv. Beoport should do the same but to the beosound 9000.

Is my understanding of beoport right and will it work as I want it to work ?

    Regards

    Martin

Re: Beoport and Windows 2003 Server

    Hi!

The Beoport is to connected to your server with one USB cable for communication and line-out for the sound. The sound that is sent out on the masterlink is analog so it's not like streaming in that context.

I have tried to install Beoport on my W2008 and the installation went fine, but the server will not recognize the internal sound card. I'm now thinking of getting a new sound card for the server (http://www.asus.com/Multimedia/Audio_Cards/Xonar_Essence_ST/). Sometimes also the software behaives a bit strange when do changes in the settings. But once running it seems to work.

If have your line out working on the server i think it should work.

    /Lars

Re: Beoport and Windows 2003 Server

    Hi Lars,

thanks for your answer. Have you tried to enable Windows Audio in Windows Server. As long as it's not enabled Windows will not work properly with a sound card. You can find it in the management console right under services.

I use Windows Server 2003 on a Acer H340 Home Server, which does not have any sound card, so I'll have to use a pci-express card as you mentioned in your link.

Must Beoport run as an application on the server with a user logged on to or does it run as a service ?

    Regards

    Martin
