Removal of Beolab 8000 top plate.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the top circular plate/disc from the top of a BL 8000?

    Cheers

    Remove the fret

Safest to remove and disconnect the tweeter and woofers

Unscrew and remove the top baffle section (loosen from top down) Take care that it does not snap in the middle. It will be stuck in some sealant foam along the edges.

Top is held by one posi screw in centre (may have to remove some foam deadening to see it)

    Re-assemble in reverse!

    Regards Graham

    Many thanks Graham

Er... how do you remove the fret!

    Cheers

See page 22-1 in the service manual.

Not easy, beware that you don't inadvertantly put your fingers through the woofers.

The service manual is a little bit like the laconic "remove engine and transmission" stage in some car shop manuals... not too helpful unless you've seen it done before.

Been a while, but I think I started at the bottom where you can more easily spread the side of the fret a little. Then, slide an old credit card or something similar between the fret and the tube, move it upwards and when it starts to get stuck, push the fret back and you should hear a "click" when another clip lets go. Repeat on both sides until you reach the top.

Then you can move it a bit upwards and remove it. I believe you should stretch a side wide open and pull it off instead of sliding it all the way up over the top (which destroys some foam spacers), another thing the service manual doesn't reveal...

Many thanks to both of you

Hmmm... you both express caution and an amount of difficulty / risk... I think I might try and persuade my local dealer to undo the frets for me...we shall see...

    Thanks again

    Nigel
