    What's better?

    What's better? Beogram 7000 or Beogram tx2?

They are largely identical, the only difference is that the 7000 has a built-in RIAA preamp so it can be connected as a line-level source.

    Re: What's better?

The TX 2 has RCA/Phono output leads & was really intended for use with non - B&O equipment. Hence it also has no datalink facility so won't respond to remote control commands via a Beomaster.

The addition of a RIAA in the Beogram 7000 means it will connect directly to most modern B&O equipment from the 6500 stacking system onwards. Connecting to earlier B&O equipment will most likely neccessitate disconnecting the RIAA or you'll just get very badly distorted noise as most pre 6500 Beomaster amps have the RIAA fitted in the phono input stage.

I suppose the answer is that neither are better overall as turtables as they are designed for different end uses. The 7000 is much more desirable though mainly due to its compatabilty with other B&O products, especially the later/modern stuff.

The use of metaphors should be avoided like the plague. They're like a red rag to a bull to me.

Ahh, forgot about the lack of Datalink on the TX2...

If you like the looks of the TX2/7000 you should go for a Beogram 5005 or 5500, the difference between the two is only the model and type number! They are not as desirable as the 7000, hence a much lower price tag.

You could also have a look at the, in my opinion, far superior Beogram 8000-series or 4000-series. The 8000's have full Datalink compatibility, they are exellent performers with full digital arm- and speed control.

I couldn't agree more! These are great decks. I the latest issue of Hi-Fi World, Adam Smith (AdamS here) used an old Beogram 6000 with a Cyrus amp and Elipson spheres to great effect!
