New here with a Programming Question

    Hello BeoWorld,

I just registered today. I'm very happy to have discovered this site- with a forum to boot!

I live in the US and have joined the B&O fold with a BeoVision 10-46 and a BeoSound 9000. My questions relate to progamming and dealer (US) attitudes/services. My dealer has been very nice but I can't help but feel "nickel and dimed" for everything to the point where I'm not sure what is standard service for this brand and what is truly extra.

Is it normal for B&O to charge extra for a remote control for their televisions?

I bought my 9000 independant of my dealer and cannot figure out if I can program the Beo4 remote to work with it myself. Is that possible? or must I have the dealer link my remote to my 9000?

    Thank you for any help.

Remotes are sold separately from the systems, as many people already have a remote, or so they are free to choose a beo4 or beo5/6. Your current beo4 will control your new tv fine and you can option program the 9000 and tv to work together. You will need the dealer to load the PUC codes into the tv so you can control DVD player, cable box, etc. with your beo4 - if dealer installed or set up tv they should load the codes at no extra charge.

Welcome to the forum forum from another US Bang and Olufsen fan. It is normal for the remote to be extra. Up until recently they were included free but no longer, they must now be purchased.

As for using the Beo 4, it does not need any programming by the dealer to control the Beosound 9000. There may be an "option" that needs to be set on the 10-46 and/or the 9000, depending on how the two are connected, or not connected. This is done using the Beo 4.

Option settings should be explained in the user guide to the 10-46.

    Beovision 10-40 with Beolab 1s and 6000s

I'm a US dealer. PM me if you need assistance by phone. Setup should only take a moment or two. Razlaw is right that the products need to be setup to understand their relationship. I.e. the BeoVision 10 will take in IR commands for both and the BeoSound 9000 will stop looking for its own commands and get them over the ML cable from the BeoVision 10.

Re: New here with a Programming Question

Thank you all for the welcome and help.

I'm glad to hear the remotes are no longer included- at least for the sake that I wasn't taken advantage of. I had a feeling that was the case, but I had to chuckle that without a Beo4, 5, or 6, my BeoVision couldn't be controlled.

My dealer is going to program the TV for various accessories, but due to the delay in the arrival of the 10-46, I'll need a return visit to program the cable box.

Good news about the remote. I have been flipping through the booklet that came with my Beo4 and the online manual and I cannot seem to get the remote to control the 9000. It works perfectly on the 10-40 that has been generously loaned to me while my BeoVision order is fulfilled. Embarrassingly, I think I have a bit of a learning curve for these products.

Thank you for the PM offer, TripEnglish. I'm determined to figure out how to control the 9000, but I will send you a PM should I not figure it out.

I'm very happy to have found this site and the people here. Thank you all for the quick replies. I look forward to getting to know this forum.

but also remember there is a healthy market for various Marks of Beo4 on eBay and that the Beolink 1000s on eBay can also be used for some functions

I have two Beo4s and two BeoLink 1000s

And why are there Beo4s (and even Beo5s) on eBay ? Because people trade-up ... and some people then trade-down Laughing

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

I just traded-down my Beo4!! I bought the 'joystick' version, but the centre toggle does nothing for my setup!!!

Re: New here with a Programming Question

    Well Johnny,

Looks like the only solution for you is to buy more Beo and fill this gap!

As for me, I have a Beo4 MKIII controlling my 1988 BeoSystem 4500, I think I need to give it more challenging work!
