    Beocenter 9000/9500 Viability

    Dear Vintage B&O Community:

I am toying with the idea to get myself a Beocenter 9000 in currently working condition. I am wondering if anyone had some input with regard to the viability of maintaining this elaborate machine? Is it at all possible to keep the CD and tape working properly over time? How about the door mechanisms? Any show stoppers with regard to unavailable parts needed to fix "likely to be encountered problems"? Any input will be appreciated! Thanks!

I would suggest getting the 9500. The 9000 has some issues with the CD clamper and is generally less reliable. Obviously the 9500 is getting old, but the laser seems pretty sturdy and belts for the tape deck are available. You will need it servicing from time to time and you will need to find someone who is willing to take time and not just yell you that it needs a new laser etc!

Thanks for the advice...you saved me from a misstep today...;-). Do you know anything about potential issues with the CD/Tape doors?

These can fail but require a new drive string usually. Replacing this will call for patience. I have had a couple of these and personally have never had any issues.
