    Beovox S55 broken

    Hello

I have just inherited a wonderful Beosystem 5000 complete with Beovox S55 speakers. However the foam on the woofers has perished. Does anyone know whether (and how) to repair or replace them?

Hi Richard, and welcome to Beoworld. What you have is a very common condition known as foam rot. You will need a repair kit like this.

Beovox S55's foam rings & glue

You will find plenty of threds on here showing you how to fix them. Also worth changing the caps in the crossover too. One of our members (Dillen). can supply these.

Definitely worth repairing. I had mine refoamed, didn't feel I was up to the job of doing it myself. Replaced the capacitors on the crossovers as well. Like new again!

Thanks Craig for your speedy advice. I have ordered the foam rings already - I will see if Dillen posts anything!

Good advice, BenSA - I am not sure if I am prepared to take the risk of fixing them myself either! I guess it is a job worth doing properly or not at all. I will look into replacing some components too.
