    BV6 (from 2006) and DVB-S and AppleTV

    Dear all,

I am thinking about buying a BV6-26 out of 2006 and use it as a link TV in my saunarium. As I cannot test it in my home I need your experience to help me:

    • What would be the costs of a DVB-S module (no need for HD, as the screen is small)? If I found it correctly it should be Module 4042/Part. no. 1404200
    • How can I connect an Apple TV2? As I found it has a DVI-I connection for the picture and which do I use for sound? Would a DAC help me and be a good solutuion?
    • How is the sound output of this TV? I want to use it also for music. No need for audiophile sound, but it should at least be as good as my current BL2000. What do you think? Is it comparable with a BV8-32 (having such one as linkTV already and like the sound.
Thanks a lot and have a nice day!
    Heribert

The DVB-S module will soon be obsolete. More and more stations in the Netherlands are making the switch to broadcast their programs in mpeg4 (not HD). I guess Austria won't be different. Module 4042 is not capable to decode mpeg4 signals. You will need the DVB-HD module to watch these stations. Alternative is an external STB. A lot cheaper then +500 EURO!

An ATV2 only uses hdmi-out for sound and picture and an optical output for sound. So unless there is an (optional) Dolby Digital decoder in the BV6 you can't use the ATV2. And you still need a device to convert from optical > coaxial. An external DAC is your alternative.

Wow, thanks a lot for this information. Did not know about a change in the technique of DVB-S broadcasting. Would be a big change like the one from analogue TV to DVB-T.

not sure I understood correctly. If I use a DAC it should work with DVI for Video and analog Audio in for Audio. Correct? Just without a DAC I ywould need the DSS module for digital COAX Audio in?

Correct! The digital inputs are only available if the DSS module is mounted. Otherwise you need an external DAC.

Keep in mind that your tv needs to be HD-ready if you choose for the DVB-HD module.

Seems I better not buy this Beovision but wait to find a more suitable one (with DVB-HD and HDMI)...

    Thank you

When I had a BV-6 I had a Apple TV (first generation) connected with a HDMI to DVI lead for the picture and used the component L and R connector for sound. Worked great! It might still be available.

I your source is not HDCP then you do not need the HD kit. (I do have one for sale if you are interrested thoughSmile

    Hi Zweets,

What exactly is this HD Upgrade kit? What does it do to the BV6? What is the cost for it?

    Thanks, Heribert
