    Future Apple TV Replacement

    Hello All

I had beomedia 1 many years ago and i ditched it due to the lack of album art and two way communication.

I decided against the BSound5 due to its price even know its lovely to look at.

I settled with Apple TV and after all this time I love it its perfect for my needs.

Can be controlled from Beo4 (PUC)
    Intergration is perfect
Sound in Link Rooms (latest software needed or analogue connection)
Two way remote via Ipod Touch Remote App.
The ability to pick it up and take it to a friends and have my whole music collection and photos at hand.

Now at christmas my t'other half is getting me an Ipad 16GB Wifi mainly so i can use it as a two way remote around the house which has led me to investigate its limitations, I am happy that the Ipad will be ok and i will love it.

The problem comes now Apple has changed the Apple TV to some rubbish device that streams the music from a PC to the Apple TV and will works very much the same way as Beolink PC that i owned before Beomedia.

So one day my apple tv will break and i will be without a Decent Media Center and the only option left will be the new apple tv with no HDD so its will no longer be portable and i will have to kill the planet leaving my computer switched on with I tunes running.

So my question to you all is:

What media center comes close to the apple tv that can be controlled Via PUC and or Lintronic -238. Has built in storage and has some form of App for two way communication?

    Thanks

    Beovision 7 MKIV (Blu Ray)
    Beolab 9

    Beolab 6000
    Beo 4
    Beocenter 9300
    Apple TV
    SKY HD
    Optoma HD65 Projector
    Lintronic TT455-RT-238
    Beovision 3 MKII

Well I think the MacMini with LinkPlayer integrated with Front Row comes close.

The exceptions are (1) price (2) it's a real computer [but just as portable IMHO]

The downside is that the new MacMini is so digital i.e. HDMI and SPDIF which creates difficulties for me and link rooms

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

    Hmmm...

Is the "new" AppleTV indeed an outright replacement?

On the site, the "old" model is referred to as: AppleTv with "n" Drive.

    Sorry, "n" = 40GB or 160GB.

I just don't know if it is gone, yet -but I understand your dilemna. I really like mine.

    Well,

Yes I had the same thoughts. I will probably buy one as spear. My guess is now they are selling for cheap.

I am sure that by the time the new one goes out of service something else will show up that is even better

I am also very disappointed with the new apple TV. I also currently use apple TV as a media server in my house. I thought that apple would improve the device. Instead, they reduced the perfromance and capabilities which I do not understand.

Good time for buying a spare one. They are in cleareance at the US online store for $149.00.

The only that I like about the new one is the Netflix feature.
