Can I Do This - Computer to Beolink PC2 to Beolink Wireless 1 to Beolab 2000/2500

I am trying to use an existing Beolink PC 2 - renamed  to Beoport after 2005

I hope to connect the Beolink PC 2 to my computer and then connect Wireless 1 to ML of the PC2. Ultimately use the receiver wireless 1 unit to connect either Beolab 2000 or Beolab 2500

Is the above technically feasible. I was told by B&O Tech Support that PC2 needs an audio system like Beosound 4000 etc..to be able to use?

    Please HELP

    Thanks

On a PC you can set Beoport in option 0 and it will act as an audio master. (On a mac as well but with LinkPlayer).

It should all be fine as long as your Beoport and your TV are on the same side of the Beolink Wireless.

    A follow up

Tried few things and I got it working from pc to beoport then to a beolab4000 directly with no wireless. The quality of sound did not feel good...i could not test the beolink wireless 1 as I am still waiting for the IR eye from B&O.

    1. Bad sound quality - Is it because my laptop may not have the best audio drivers? Please suggest a good PC configuration for this purpose - I am planning on buying a PC very soon

    2. I was testing it on a laptop with not much capabilities in terms of audio drivers and quality..is my assumption correct that the quality of the sound totally depends on the processing from the PC - as my beoport is receiving the audio signal from the PC - through audio out 3.5mm cable into audio in 3.5mm - then finally 8pin to beolab 4000

    3. I tried connecting the beoport to my beosound 4000. However, the AUX input does not have the 8 pins - its a 7 pin input - does this mean that the beoport is compatible only recent products but not beosound 4000.

    4. Are there ways to connect the beoport to beosound 4000?

    5. what difference does the option setting in beoport makes - i tested all options 0 to 6 and could not find any difference in quality

    5. Bottom line - Why would I need beoport if I can use a itouch with bose dock for itouch and remote?

Depends on you rPC (please state what brand and model you have); I have an Apple Mac which others say is not good, but my ears are equally not good.

What others have done is place a Cambridge DACMagic (converts digital to analogue) between their APples and the BeoPort to get better audio -- their complaint has been that the DAC inside the Mac is inferior.

Also very much depends on the quality with which you have captured the music.  Try comparing a CD played on the PC going direct to the BeoPort/BeoLabs and then listen to the same tracks recorded as MP3s -- can you hear a big difference?  Is that the same difference you hear between the PC and your Beosound 4000?

Are you trying to connect the BeoPort's PowerLink outputs to the BeoSound 4000's AUX input ?

I don't think that's a good idea -- I am no expert but it does not seem "right".

Try instead to convert the headphone output at the front of the BeoPort to the BeoSound 4000.

Also on the back of the BeoPort there is a hidden 3.5mm jack usually hidden by a sticker and referred to in the manual as "Reserved for future use" - it is also an output port that you could try connecting.

I believe the headphone port is volume controlled but that this "hidden" port is not volume controlled.

See the above two suggestions on the use of the headphone and hidden ports.

Options are to do with correct IR controls, nothing to do with audio quality

I use mine for these other reasons:

    1. Integration with my BeoVision and LinkPlayer on my Mac -- gives me Beo4 control of a number of applications (but the BeoVision PUC/IR blaster is another (but inferior IMHO) approach)
    2. Integration with my distributed speakers so that I can play centralised digital music (including internet radio) in multiple rooms

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

How would I connect beoport 3.5mm mini jack to beosound 4000.

    ML does not work

    AUX in is not working

You probably need a cable like this one

DIN to 3.5mm Jack <= ebay

there are lots of ebay from different sellers

you could also try Sounds Heavenly a sponsor of this site ... their online as and contacts should be at the bottom of this page

or you could try making one yourself - I have done so in the past - wiring diagrams can be found on BeoTech the sister site of BeoWorld

I tried with this cable and all I could hear is pulse. There was no audio....not sure why. I took the beoport out into the 5 pin aux of the beosound and all I could hear was a noise similar to a pulse
