Beocenter 9000 to Avant 32" DVD with Beolab Penta MkIII

    Hello everybody

I have connected my Beocenter 9000 to my Beovision Avant via Masterlink (Beolink Converter 1611). There is a pair of Beolab Penta MkIII connected to the Avant. Now I have a problem. The Pentas do not display any information of the Beocenter 9000 like Radio, CD, A.Tape, volume etc. When I turn on TV, DTV, DVD the Pentas display these informations. Can someone help me with this problem? What have I done wrong?

    Regards, Noah.

It is probably an option problem though I am not sure the 9000 works fully with the 1611. I though this only really was designed to work with the later 9500 and 9300. Try option setting the 9000 to either 1.5 or 2.5 depending on what you have it set at present - Sound 2 store, sound 5 store.

    Hi Peter.

What do you mean with 1.5 or 2.5? Is that the A.OPT setting of the Beo4? I noticed that the 9000 does not respond when I do the A.OPT 0 setting, but it does react with A.OPT 1 and 2!? What is Sound 2 store, sound 5 store?

    Sorry...I am a bit confused!;-)

    Regards, Noah.

I have just noticed that a deep hum comes from the Pentas. But only when I play a audio cassette. Very strange!

Sorry, I imagined you had a Beolink 1000 with the 9000. The option settings are easier with a 1000 but you can do it with a Beo4. The option setting 5 and 6 are usually just with a Beosystem 4500 but I wondered if the 9000 might do something similar. The option settins are inded the A.Opt settings. The fact it does not work with Opt 0 suggests that the 1611 does not work fully with the 9000 assuming that the Avant is set to V.Opt 2. If the only issue is the display on the Pentas, I would not worry! The hum from the tape is not so good - is it with all tapes? Does it do it with no tape in the machine?

Okay. Then I should go for a 9500 or 9300 to get the displays working?

No. It does no hum with no tape in the machine. It is with all tapes expect one...a Tom Jones tape!;-) Expect of the hum with the tape all works excellent! I have a pair of passive speakers too (but not connected to the 9000 yet) and the tape worked very fine with those!

Re: Beocenter 9000 to Avant 32" DVD with Beolab Penta MkIII

Has anybody an idea what I have done wrong?

Let me tell you the connections I have done: First I have disconnected the whole system from the mains (Avant, Pentas, Beocenter and Beolink Converter). Then I connected the Datalink cable from the 9000 to the AUX socket of the Converter. Then the Masterlink cable from the Converter to the Avant. After that, I have connected the Pentas, Avant and the 9000 to the mains. And finally the Beolink Converter!

Is that correct or does someone think there is a fault? Do I have to connect the Beocenter to the Powerlink socket of the converter?

    Regards, Noah.

    Hello Noah,

we have both - BeoCenter 9000 and 9300 in our family. I remember that the 9000 has no Powerlink-Sockets so I´d guess that the 9000 isn´t able to run the displays in the Pentas. You write that the informations from the BeoVision are shown so I think you have the right wires (the bigger ones). The 9300 and the 9500 have Powerlink-sockets so they musst be able to show the displays information.

    Only my opinion!

    regards, Adrian

I don't think you are doing anything wrong - I think the BC9000 simply doesn't do what you want it to. A 9500 or 7000 system would but that would mean a lot more money!

The thing with the displays of the pentas is fine for me. I can live with that. What bothers me is that hum that comes from the speakers when I play a cassette.

Can you help me with that?

Noah, you will probably find another to problem with your setup. As you cannot set the 9000 option 0. You will find that you will find that you may get double comands. For example if you try to go to the next track on a CD it may jump 2. Or press Track 2 and you will get Track 22.

I don't think that a have to clean the cassette deck. The 9000 was until Thursday at revision. My dealer told me he claned everything. This noice occures since I have connected it to the Avant!

Craig: I was aware of this problem. Surprisingly there were no double commands. When I press e.g 5 on the remote the 9000 plays track 5!

An other thing that annoys me a bit is that I always have to switch the 9000 to stand-by when I want to watch TV. I hoped that it will switch to stand-by automatically if I want to watch TV after listening to radio or CD.

It should, at least mine did when I had a 9000 connected to my BV3-32. My only problem was with the double commands.

So your 9000 switched to stand-by when you turned the TV on?

As far as I can remember it did. Pretty sure I could also turn off the BV3 from the 9000.

Okay. Is it possible that there is something wrong with my converter? As my 9000 comes just from revision and the Avant is like new it can only be the parts that has a fault!

    Regards, Noah.

Re: Beocenter 9000 to Avant 32" DVD with Beolab Penta MkIII

    Hi folks.

I have made some progress!! I managed to get the displays of the Pantas working. It seems that the 9000 has 2 other A.OPT. A.Opt 5 & 6. A.OPT 5 was the one that made the displays working!Big Smile But now, as Craig said I have to deal with these double commands...[:'(]

The A.Tape is still humming, the 9000 does not switch to stand-by and I get no information of the CD track on the Pentas! I think this will never end.Super Angry

    Regards, Noah.

Regarding the tape hum, try disconnecting everything from the Beocenter and try playing it through passive speakers (or headphones). If the hum is still there, it is a fault in the Beocenter, and you have at least one thing less to hunt for in your other setup...

The sound is crystal clear with the passive speakers! There seems to be no fault with the 9000.

I am at a loss with this!
