Having tough time identifying wires on Beomaster 3000.2 Type 2402.

Hello. I am replacing the big capacitors on my receiver and due to my stupidity 25 years ago when I removed two of the caps in an attempt to find replacements, I left the groups of wires disconnected and unidentified thinking it was just going to be  afew days before I had the caps and re-wired it up.

Fast forward 25 years and I have the caps and the desire to get it going again with my beogram 4004 and B&O rosewood table arriving last week, and now I am absolutely paralyzed with fear on connecting the wires again.

I downloaded the schematcis and I have been pouring over them for a few hours comparing the tiny, tiny drawings with what I can follwo on the circuit and I am afraid I am getting myself lost and frustrated.

Does anyone have a picture of the wiring of the 3 main caps?

The wires are grouped together in sets of 5 or 6 wires each and I thought it would be easy to figure the neg from pos but it looks like B&O does not adhere to a strict policy of black and red for neg and pos. So I have a group of wires that have red and orange, and white&Red, together with a white& black and white&grey. And I have a set with black wires but it also has white& black in it's group.

If I had a color picture looking down on the terminals of those caps, I know I could confidently attach them to the correct posts, but without it I may go blind trying to read the old schematic with a magnifying glass.

Thank-you for any feedback on this!

    Dan,

Upon further review of your post...

I think you want a pic "looking up" w/ the base plate removed... to see the bottom of the caps. Correct?

If you give me ~2 hours I can get the pic you need (w/ a better camera too).

I will simply replace the one above.

Please advise... I am happy to help!

    YES! You are correct Sir!

I need the opposite view from bottom with base removed.

I am VERY impressed and excited to have gotten a response so soon.

I have the unit on my desk all open and ready to assemble and the new beogram 4004 will be here in the next two hours so I am very excited to see the picture.

Thank-you again for taking the time to do this for me.

    Photo updated.

I will leave the BM open if you want/need any more shots!

    Have fun! Smile

    Fantastic job!

    I see 90% of what I needed.

If you still have the BM open, can you tell me where the black wire which is attached to the pos of the center (larger grey cap) goes to? That one black wire attached along with the red ones to that terminal is a bit confusing becasue I have several black wires and still can not decide which one that one is.

There is also the issue of your BM being different enough from mine that the exact number and location of wires is different. You have a PC board in the pic (ending in 40401) that I do not have in mine.

My BM is 300-2 Type 2402. But still, there is enough of what does match, that I am comfortable.

BTW - The Beogram 4004 just arrived as well. Thanks so much for your time!

    Dan,

    Mine is a 3000-2 2405...

The black wire in question runs to the board in question... 40401

I really appreciate the effort you made to remove the bottom plate and take the pictures for me.

With the difference in our models I am still stuck with identifying a couple of black wires that may or may not be pos or neg and also may or may not be power cap but instead be output cap.

I am stuck with undoing the lacing from the wiring and tracking the source of each wire individually and checking it against the schematic.

]This may take a week to get through.

If anyone else has a 3000-2 Type 2402 like I do, would you be willing to take a picture of the terminal side of your three caps and show where they terminate in the case of the few of them that terminate to the resistor PC board right next to the terminals (not seen in burantek's pic because of difference in model types)?

    Boy, does that look familar!!

You probably can't see me jumping for joy here but believe me, there is jumping happening.

I have to agree with Burantek that "I love this site!". And I just joined when I wanted to get my BM back on the path to health. I must have missed a lot of love over the years that this site has been around.

I'll let you know once I have a look, but already I see a problem in that I originally wired both red wires from the 1 watt resistors to the positive terminal of the middle cap. I see that one is neg and one is pos.

I think I am on the right track now. Thank-you again!

Glad it's hopefully going to do the trick Dan. I too have left the BM opened up in case you need anything further - in fact this is the first time this BM's insides have seen daylight since new! Reminds me I must get a cap kit and lamp off Dillen on this site.  Don't give up...there's always help here.

Re: Having tough time identifying wires on Beomaster 3000.2 Type 2402.

I wonder if any of you lads can help me with a Beomaster 2000.

sound coming out of right channel is fizzly & distorted (FYI: the speakers are fine & sound out left channel is fine)

Can you tell me what internal parts i should test first in my BM2000?

pics would be helpful as i have no service manual yet.

    thanks so much!

Re: Having tough time identifying wires on Beomaster 3000.2 Type 2402.

Have had some sucess in that I get sound out now although at a limited volume with scratchey, thin, weak sound. I am wondering if I still have something shorted that is chocking the pre-amp section or something.

But now I found another issue to tackle and I am looking for direction. I bought a beogram 4004 TT for my BM 300-2 and I went to connect it last night to find the TT has a 7 Pin Din connector instead of the 5 Pin DIN on my BM.

Do you know anyone on here who sels and adapter, or parts to make one, or a pointer to a website where I can buy or make one?

Thanks again...throwing my request out to the magic of Beoworld again...

    Hi Dan,

the plug thing will be easy to sort out - the two "extra" pins will just screw off. Look closely and you'll see a tiny slot for a screwdriver at the end of the pin. Don't lose the pins, tape them to the turntable cord or something.

Regarding the other problem, can you feel the Beomaster getting unusually hot anywhere? Is that weak sound with all sources?

Re: Having tough time identifying wires on Beomaster 3000.2 Type 2402.

Thank-you for insight on pins I will do that.

The BM was not warm to the touch in any area after 15 minutes of use (connected to magnapan loudspeakers) with the weak sound being the same with testing using my laptop headdphone out to a 3.5 mm to 5 pin din adapter I bought off eBay.

I connected to Phono 1, Phono 2, and Tape input. All threee play the music, all three played at same weak, distorted sound.

I should note, that I have one wire not connected to anything up near the Bass slider. 30 years ago my stereo indicator lamp went out and it is pulled up out of its cubby hole with the thought that I could find a replacement lamp someday to fix it and it looks like the loose wire may have connected to the lamp, although it already has two wires connected (one is white with black stripe, and other is black) so this is a solid grey wire that is long enough to terminate to the lamp or somewhere in that area.

I can take a pic and post if needed.

Than-you for quick response. I have business prospects visiting on Saturday and my desire is to have my BM, TT and speakers going in my offic when I welcome them. I will take a picture of my "retro" setup when I finish this. It includes eames furniture, a 2  new 2 inch wool shag rug, and B&O cabinet (all pieces re-finished rosewood).

Re: Having tough time identifying wires on Beomaster 3000.2 Type 2402.

OK, if it doesn't get hot I suppose you have the power supply connected properly and the idle current setting of the power amps should be about right.

This series of receivers have a habit of getting corrosion on the switches when they sit unused. You could try just flipping trough all of them a couple of dozen times and see if the sound gets better, even momentarily (keep the volume well down to avoid damaging the speakers!). Likewise, if the volume, balance etc controls are "scratchy" they might need a little workout.

I don't have a 3000 myself so the other guys might be able to help you with the remaining mystery wire. The stereo lamp only needs two, so I guess that's not where it came from.

Re: Having tough time identifying wires on Beomaster 3000.2 Type 2402.

Thank-you all for contributing your time to provide help for my 3000. I have an old used one on the way that I bought on eBay from someone in Canada. I paid $140 for it and hopefully between the two of them (his is a 300-2 Type 2402 also) I can get one good Beomaster up and running.

But all of this revived interest in my 3000 has gotten me wanting to get my true love, a 4400. So now I am approaching users, and hunting eBay for a good condition 4400.

Also, I have a couple bids on Beocord reel to reels as I really love the reel to reel sound (I used to have a Teac r to r back in the 80's). If anyone knows of a nice beocord reel please let me know.

It's funny, back in 2003, I was consulting and had lots of liquid cash and I went to a mid-fi store and bought a whole setup costing just under $10,000. I wish I had the revival impulse back then becasue I could have gotten a very nice vintage B&O setup for about half that amount. Although it would not be 5.1 or 7.1 but I don't care. Most of the stuff I listen to is pure 2 channel music. So I have a nice Rotel Amp and preAmp, and a Project RM6B TT with Sumiko Blue Oyster Special Cart, 5 Quad 22L speakers and I sit and wish I had a Beomaster 4400 or 4401 with Beocord RR, instead. Although I did get a Beogram 4004 two weeks ago, and although I have only heard it twice, becasue of the 3000-2 in a weakened depressed state, I am excited to use that one the dust settles on getting a working beomaster back online. I also have a pair of magnapan IIa I bought off eBay last month specifically for the B&O setup (and of course I had to get the B&O open rosewood cabinet from eBay to hold the rosewood B&O equipment. I'll post some pics if others would like to see. It all comes together nicely on the shag rug and all.
