    Hello!

    It's me again!Embarrassed

I've bought a nice CDX CD player but the display is faulty.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

Well, it could be the display iteself but check solder joints on the board, especially at the connectors
and the display. Check the joints for the track number LED's too, they are often cracked.
Note where all plugs and cables go, at least one of them can go in the wrong place (!) and destroy one of the processors.

If that fails I have a spare board with the display attached....

    Thanks Chris.

I'll try what Martin suggests, then I'll come to you if it doesn't work.

    I haven't fixed that yet.

I've got a spare CD 3300 with a good display. Would it fit?

What could go wrong in this display? I've checked all the solders. Anyway one only wrong segment is weird.

Well, basically LEDs (diodes) are merely semiconductors and semiconductors are known to
fail occasionally. I suppose that's what has happened here.

I've found this, and that—it's still available!

I know it's not useful really, but a minter with a defective display is not satisfactory. Super Angry

By the way, I got it for about 50 € (original box, but no transit screws). I had to re-solder three green leds and a few griplets (whatever that means) too!

I think, I would grab Chris' spare board and mount either the whole board or just the display.

    Re: Beogram CDX display fault

I'm not sure of the working condition of the board components as it came from a totally wrecked CDX which I bought for parts so never fully tested it as far as the touch sensors etc.... The display was working fine though as I remember getting the CDX in question to start (with a lot of encouragement) and remember it whizzing through the tracks backwards & forwards & lighting up like a Christmas tree.

It's still yours if you want it.

    Re: Beogram CDX display fault

    Hello!

Thanks to Chris I finally had my display working completely!

I changed the whole board. It had quite a few bad solder joints as expected of course. It didn't work first time, silly me, I had missed a few more bad solders (no stop, no repeat—I had focussed on the leds). My original PCB presented the same symptoms, even if it was one of the last produced.

Thanks again for your support and invaluable advice.

Wel done and a big thanks to Chris who seems to have an inexhaustible supply of parts and generosity! I do like the CDX. I know it uses the TDA1540 DAC which should be antiquated, but it really does sound very good!

Yes Chris is a nice fellow!

Yes the CDX is a nice player. I've had many, including TDA 1541-based ones, Bitstream ones, and now I know what I prefer. Amazing, isn't it?

Aw - shucks guys, it's a labour of love honest....

Beautiful players & I NEVER throw parts away from vintage stuff, much to my wifes chagrin.
