    Problem with CDX

Apologies for this one but I've trawled through the 56 pages of threads related to 'CDX' and, although I'm sure there is a suitable response in there somewhere, I can't find it!

Benn happily using a CDX for 12 months or so with no problems.  After a hour or so of use, I changed a CD and suddenly sound levels very low and distorted.  Cleaned the lens (both a lens cleaning CD and  with a cotton bud) to no avail.  Now all I get is very distorted signal which is only just audible with the volume slider on my BM 4400 way up.   CD plays fine on my BC 9000 and BS 2500

Checked phono connections and the DIN socket on the BM - all OK.  The disc appears to being read OK as the track numbers appear quickly and the CD plays and runs through the tracks perfectly well.

    Any ideas?

    Cleve,

The rivet vias used on some of the boards are causing a lot of strange problems in these wonderful machines.
Sounds as if one of the audio circuits in your CDX lost a power or ground connection.
Clean off the old solder, pull a wire through the via and solder it to the copper tracks on both sides. The only
    long-time fix.

    Thanks Martin,

However, my soldering skills are laughable - literally!  Tim Jarman fell about laughing when he looked at my attempts to solder in a new speed trimmer bulb provided by you for my Beogram 4004.

    Oh..

Well, maybe you just mentioned the solution yourself then.  Laughing
