Whooohoo! Get in! Huzzah! Mission Accomplished! Etc!

At last! After about five years of lusting after this, then being diverted by other rare B&O items that somehow seemed to usurp the Beolab 5000 set up at a given moment in time when I had some spare cash, I now have an early 31st birthday present :)

For the time being it will have to live in my office at home, being used with some CX50s and hooked up to my Airport Express. One day I'd like to have it as a main room system, but there's no way is my Beomaster 8000 going to fit on these small shelves in a swap round of rooms.

Beomaster 5000 came from UK eBay. Beolab 5000 came from eBay.de. Both in great condition, though one day I might have them serviced. Amazing how similar they both looked to my Beolit 800 earlier - should get a photo one day.

    I think I'm done collecting now :P

    Congrats j0hn!

Looks like you indeed got a nice pair... the text all appears to be intact!

How about the stereo light on the tuner? ...mine are out. Sad

    Bravo! Yes - thumbs up

    Thanks Jeff

Stereo light works fleetingly, but there's poor FM reception in my flat, so I'm not sure whether I will ever see it lit in practice. I could always mess about with the stereo settings on the tuner I suppose...one for another day though I think. Just basking in the satisfaction of finally bagging one of the true collector's items and being able to use it daily :)

Welcome to the club! Yes - thumbs up

The tuner is excellent. Just jam a one meter loose wire into the antenna socket and I'm sure you'll be able to receive in stereo, if the tuner is working correctly and you don't live in a bomb shelter.

Hmm, seems like the stero light on my amp has gone out since I got them Hmm

BTW, post / send the serial numbers to Frede in that thread, the name of which I've already forgotten... he collects the info to try and find out the production numbers for these units.

    EDIT: here's the thread.

    Hi Mika

I don't have the serial no. sticker on the Beomaster, but I can send the details of the Beolab to Frede as the sticker is still there.

Which aerial socket should I use to try and get an FM signal? Not used to the choice!

Need to work out too which way to turn the stereo screw on the back of the BM.

The user manuals are on site Smile

Can't see the rear of my stack, but it feels like my 30 cm antenna wire is stuck in the third hole counting from the power switch side of the tuner  Laughing

There's plenty of sockets as the tuner has an attenuated antenna input as well. Apparently this was useful when the tuner was being used as a reference receiver at a radio station.

    hey john,

congratulation to your beolab 5000 system and welcome to the club... ;-) looks very nice indeed. do all inputs from your beolab perform without any faults?

my beolab 5000 works well, only the phono-stage and the lights are defect...

    enjoy the incredible sound.

    best regards

    dario

p.s. mission complete? i don't think so... now it's hunting time for the adequate speaker setup (beovox 3000/2500 cubes).

    Thanks guys - now I'm a member of all the exclusive collector's clubs: Beomaster/Beolab 5000; Beomaster 6000 Quad, &; Beomaster 8000 :)

Stereo light on tuner now working as I've fashioned an aerial and fiddled with the stereo sensitivity screw on the back of the Beomaster. Think I did well with this one as everything appears to be working on both units :D
