Hi All
Have been watching a beolit 700 on ebay.. rather nice, but not mint..
The bidding is up to 860.00US with some 7 hours to go...
I was keen, but this is getting a little silly. The prices with this seller have been very very high of late. Is this just the regular price for something in good condition, or is something odd going on?
Advice appreciated

Re: Beolit 700- late 1960's
David
For a non-mint set that is still excessively high. I would expect to pay around £350-400 for a very good Beolit 1000, and they are much rarer and sought after than the 700. I would have thought $300 would be nearer the mark.
What colour is it? If it is purple or red then they seem to be the most popular.
For what it's worth, I have two Beolit 600s (red and black) and I paid £120 for the black one and £50 for the red one (red one needed about £50 of repairs as it wasn't working).

Re: Beolit 700- late 1960's
Hello John et.al
It is prior to the colour series, i.e it is from mid to late 60's. Has a leather handle.
Any further advice.
Have just bought a mint beolit 1000 in oak for 750US... thought that was ok price wise...
Regards
David

Re: Beolit 700- late 1960's
The early 700s are lovely sounding radio but that is rather expensive - There are plenty of these around so I would wait! The 1000 is again a good radio though I don't think it actually sounds quite as good as the 700. I think the speaker may be smaller. I have a leather 1000 - very nice to play with. The chassis is plastic though and this gets brittle with age and does change colour. My favourite is probably a Colour radio 700. More metal and very neat design. Oak is rather nice in the 1000 and probably merited the price.

Re: Beolit 700- late 1960's
Sorry David - my mistake.
That is still too expensive for a 60s 700. To give you an idea, I paid about £150 for a mint teak Beolit 800 a couple of years ago. If memory serves me correctly, the 800 is just a 700 in a nice wooden case. Not worth three times the amount I paid for an 800 IMO.
Good work on the 1000 - seems like you got a good one :)

Re: Beolit 700- late 1960's
Thanks John and Peter,
The beolit 700 (prob abt 1966) went for 930 USD. I decided that was too much money. Someone else obviously thought it was worth the money.
I do wonder abt ebay auctions sometimes- it would be so easy to set up another account and push the price up. I just don't understand why this model went for so much money! It was in nice condition, but not mint at all.
I'd really love a Jet or Mini present style radio. Any ideas where i could get one in excellent condition?
Im really just starting my collection of radios. Thus far I have a lovely beolit 800 (teak I think), A nice beolit 600 (black- but the speaker needs some work), An almost mint beolit 1000 (oak) and a mint beolit 700 (red). I think the beolit 800 is my favourite. It is used weekly and has such a beautiful sound
