Hello Everyone,

 I currently have a failing BC9000 with a Beogram 9500 and am considering a second hand BC9300. I believe that the BC9300 did not have a dedicated Phono input. Is it still possible to connect my Beogram 9500 as I still love my vinyl ? I know this subject has probably come up before but I have not find a direct answer on the site and so thought to ask my venerable B & O peers. Thanks in advance.

Your beogram 9500 will work but you will need a RIAA pre amp between it and the AUX socket of the BC9300. Alternatively, sell the Beogram 9500 and buy either Beogram 3500, 4500, 6500 or 7000 as they have the required pre amp built in.

One of our members is considering building a supply of RIAA pre amps for fitting within decks like your 9500 but don't hold your breath!

External pre amps are available from £20 to several thousand pounds! I have found that the cheap ones are adequate. Suggest you trawl the net to find one available to your market.

The only reason to disagree with Peter is that you probably have a little more life expectancy with a 9300 and certainly more chance of getting the 9300 repaired if neccessary.

Thanks for the advice. I was aware that the 9300 was inferior to the 9500 but not too many of these old systems become available. I have the old MCL links for 2 additional sets of speakers and would prefer not to have to re-configure everything so a newer Beocenter seemed like the best option. I am not a fan of the current B & O audio range from an aesthetics point of view with the exception of the 6 CD changer. The likelihood of another deck coming up is remote so getting an external RIAA is probably my only option. Will the 9300 still drive the deck via the remote or is that functionality lost with the BC9300 also?

I think the datalink on the 9300 does recognise a phono deck but your problem will be modding the cables to continue tne datalink around the RIAA pre amp. I know it's possible 'cos I've done it with some cables specially made for the job by one of the members on the old forum.

well, i could not sit still. i have sourced a TCC TC-750LC phono preamp.

i have decided to go with connecting the tx2 as it has the rca outputs and ground, and frankly looks better w/ the bc9300.

it should be here shortly. i will report back w/ the results.

ran into this very situation a few minutes ago... any suggestions for the external amp? i will be connecting a bc9300 to a bg5500.

i have looked at a few on ebay... all seem to have rca jacks, are there any out there with dins? if not i may use a tx2 turntable w/ the rca leads and ground wire to the amp and then a din to rca lead from the amp to the bc9300.

I wonder if you can help? I have a beocenter 9300 which has the white line round the perimeter, I have seen other strips on different beocenters but do you know if these can be purchased. I would like to replace this strip if it is possible. Do you know if this is possible?

I'm afraid that the white strip is not easily replaceable. It is painted on to the top frame and would mean a complete top replacement including all the sliding door mechanisms, stringing etc. Not really viable.

Humbrol model enamel in white is a good match if you want to do a touch up job.

Not all of them had a white stripe, I have one at the moment without it. You could try removing it completely but I would favour masking and touch up.

I realised after a good look that this is cosmetic rather than a replaceable part, painted on job. Ita not really a problem but I thought it would look much better and discreet with a black trim. Who knows may do this in future. I read earlier that you were saying the 9300 was most likely easier to repair than the 9500 system, do you know of any good contacts for replacement parts?

The 9300 is easier only because most parts are still available from B&O whereas some 9500 parts are not (the CD for instance). Having said that, it is not really an issue since both are exceptionally reliable.

I do like the one without the white trim. Looks less dated in my view.

I think the Beocentre 9300 could be used with a datalink turntable such as BG3500,4500,6500,7000.These all have the RIAA preamp built in,but you need to change the option of the TP2 input to Phono? Remote control of the deck is then possible

If so,you could also use other turntables such as BG3000,5000,5500,85/9500,which are datalink,but don't have RIAA preamps.An external preamp would have to be used here,with a bypass for the datalink,to maintain remote control.
