I wonder if anyone can help me finding out what "file"/"disk" formats the DVD 1 would be able to play?

The DVD player (samsung) I got at the moment can play the following: avi, mpg, mpeg, divx, mp3, wma, lpcm, ac3, jpeg

According to the literature, DVD - Video, Video CD, CD-A, CD-R, CD-RW and MP3. The first ones were based on a Philips machine with those after 2004 being Pioneer. Neither has that good a reputation for reliability - have you considered the DVD controller?

thought this dvd1 would be abit poor like this.

Would you know how to connect the dvd controller? I got an MX4200 with a STB contoller connected already through the jack at the back of the TV. Would the DVD controller be connected to the TV, or the DVD player?
