    B&O BL8000 & BL2 with non-B&O audio source?

I am sure this has been covered before, but could not quickly find it.

I am interested in hooking my BL8k/BL2 to a 5.1 output from a AV system (not yet purchased - but to complement my new BluRay DVD)

    1)  Is there a way to take a line-out level (not sure how to look for this in a new amp/pre-amp?) into the speakers and use the B&O built-in amp?

    2)  If I bypass the B&O amps - by using the RCA-in - I assume that would be like normal speakers - but if I have the Bl2 linked will the filters still work?

    3)  Will all of this be in some balance if I then connect some other non-B&o speakers to my rears?

    Any other comments?

    thanks

    Hi

    1) Your amp must have pre-amplified outputs, fairly standard on medium range av amps

    2) If using in this scenario the BL2 filters as you call them are redundant, the sub is fed a dedicated bass channel from the 5.1 amp as per the signal with each and every other speaker.  Contact Steve at Sounds Heavenly for the appropriate cable and terminations.

    3) This is down to you really and your choice of rear speakers.  B&O speakers tend to balance tonally.  I have used the above setup in the same scenario with BL4000 at the rear and as the centre speaker, I think they work really well and complement 8000's far better than a 7. 1/2/4.

    Hope this helps.

Pre-amp outputs - I assume these are standard RCA connectors?

I have never seen the back of a 5.1.  I presume there are 5 different plugs, 1 for each.  Can I just route the "front stereo" to the Aux on my B&O which then will power the speakers/sub and then plug something else (not sure what yet, though I have some older bookshelf Polks which sound great) to the rears?  What then about the center?

I need to take a closer look at the Bl2 - but how specifically would that interface with non-B&O?

Yes pre-amp outs generally RCA - get phono to phono cables from Steve at Sounds Heavenly which you intend to use with B&O Speakers which have an RCA Connector for Line-in.  Products like the BL2 Steve will make up the appropriate terminations.

Your digital output (assuming you have one) would feed the amp and sound would be distributed through the speakers.  Aux socket on a B&O system has nothing to do with this setup!
