    Beovision 5 and Mac Mini

    Hi!

I have a Beovision 5(early version) and is trying to figure out how to connect it with a mac mini. I know you have to get an optical to coax converter and all that. I haven't gotten myself a mac mini yet so in the meantime I'm trying it out with a macbook and a Saffire LE soundcard(that has a S/PDIF coax output). I've connected everything properly but I can't make it work. No sound!

I've read that most screens can't understand digital stereo PCM data, is this correct? Are there any B&O screens that can?

I have also tried playing DVDs through my computer and changed the soundcard settings so it is supposed to output AC3 but still no sound. Any thoughts about this? Any previous experiences?

Btw, I think it's really weird that no B&O screen has optical inputs.

    Best Regards

    Felix Swensson

I have the same setup with a beovision 4 ( early model , no vga) . I bought a converter cable from Apple dvi to composit and connect it to the camara input on the beosystem 2.

That doesn't really help. It's the audio I'm concerned about, video comes second. I also want my sound connection to be all digital so I don't want plug it in through the camera input.

Somewhere in the system the sound will be converted to analog .

I use the headphone output on the mac for the sound

Re: Beovision 5 and Mac Mini

I have done some experimenting, trying a few things out. I tried connecting my computer directly into the Beolab 5 digital input and it worked. However, I have to change my settings, setting up the Beolab 5 as stand-alone speakers(option 4).

What I would like to do is to connect my computer directly to the speakers with S/PDIF. Connect video from computer to V-TAPE on BV5 and still be able to control volume and everything as usual. Is this possible?

I believe it is possible so long as you have L/R stereo input into the V.TAPE socket as well as the video - use the lower digital input on the DD sound card - i recall the top input (1) is reserved for DVD, the bottom (2) for STB/SAT - you may need to use these settings

Hmm. I'm not sure I get it. Should I connect my computer both with analog and digital audio connections? Why is that? What do you mean by DD sound card? The connections on the BV5?

    Thanks in advance

    /Felix
