Connect CD player to Beomaster 2200

I have a Beomaster 2200 (purchased UK in 1985). I have bought a Tangent CDP-100 CD player and a lead (two jacks at one end and a five pint connector at the other - sorry - I'm not very not technical) and I hoped to connect the two successfully. I did this before with my  Beomaster 1000 (1970 vintage). The only place that the lead will go is the 'Record Tape' socket and I was hopeful that this might work. No luck. Has anyone succeeded in running a modern CD player on a Beomaster 2200, please?

It should work if mounted to the Tape socket.

I'm pretty sure that it is possible but the pins may need changing round. The tape socket on the Beomaster is wired for input and output.
I connected an MP3 player to my tape socket of a 1960s 5000 system but had to resolder the wires in the din plug.
Have a look at this thread, it might help.
