Beocenter 2300 - intermittent loss of sound in one speaker

My Beocenter has started having a really weird problem - sometimes i can only get sound from one of the speakers (Beolab4000's). I say no sound..there is some audio but its so quiet you need to put your ear against the speaker to hear anything, whilst the other channel is working normally.

Some days the system works perfectly, some days it doesn't.

I have tried swapping the cables over in the two datalink sockets but that makes no difference. The same problem also occurs using the headphone socket.

I have also tried swapping the datalink cables whilst the cd was playing (ie - powered on) and i did notice that if i unplugged the working speaker, then the problem speaker would spring to life. I have tried using a different datalink cable but i'm not sure whether that cable is ok...i'm going to dig out the multimeter to test the cables for shorts

The problem occurs both on cd and radio sources.

I would appreciate any suggestions regarding this baffling problem.

    thanks in advance

    i fixed it myself!

after more testing, it became clear that the cable feeding audio to the "good" speaker was actually the faulty cable. By replacing it, i now have a fully working system again.

who would have thought the working side would be causing the problem and not the cable that connected to the duff side?

    Hi Adam,

I have to agree with Andy, It is extremely rare on Beoworld that a post goes unanswered and as a moderator I feel as guilty as anyone that this was the case with your problem. I can only offer you an apology on behalf a site which prides itself on the excellence of its knowledge & membership.

Can I also thank you on behalf Beoworld for taking the time & effort to follow up your unanswered thread with the solution which I am sure will be of interest to others who may have the same problem.Smile

not a problem guys. I understand that no reply means no one else has seen the problem.  Best of all - i can now listen tot he stereo again without the fear of a monster repair bill.
