6000's tend to get a thumbs down here on beoworld, but there has been a thread or two stating the same as you.
i am also a defender of the 6000 in the right settings. in my case, it was not the room as much as it was placement.
when placed widthwise rather than lengthwise in the room, they really were perfect for the space.
sadly, current room layout dictated they be placed lengthwise, so i moved them to rear channel positions and put wall mounted 4000's up front.
in short, i think all speakers (except lab5's -i'm sure) can suffer from poor placement and conversely shine when placed correctly.
three cheers for the 6000!!!
