Using a PC to control IR stuff

I was thinking it would be cool if I were able to control all my A/V equipment with a computer. Does anyone know if there is software that could do this?

I'm using my computer to control my 1.5Tb of movies, pictures, television, music, tv-tunner via Windows Media Center.

I had before a Logitech 1000 universal  remote that I just sold in order to buy tomorrow a Beo5.

However, I found a clever solution in controlling everything by using an MX Air Logitech Mouse. That is really great and I am really happy with this solution.

Lintronic have a product that may fit your needs. The TT455-RT-238 can control almost any IR product and can be controlled by these plus PC and more.

Has anyone used a USB UIRT (universal infared receiver transmitter) with a computer? My main goal is to use a laptop to control all my mis-match AV equipment.
