That is so far north you will need a series of people to bring it back - rather like the Olympic flame!  I could only help on the last (southern) leg!

The sad fact is that there are vehicles making this journey every day :(

I could be in a position to help here! I am planning, weather permitting, to come down on Monday - in a van! And I am going to Farnborough!! Let me know. I may have a problem with when I can pick it up but I dare say we can come to some arrangement!

    Peter, you are a hero.

Would you promise me that you dont tell Tim its in the van though?  If you do ... its likely that I will never get it away from him! ;)

PM me about how I am going to get it. The weather may of course put pay to the whole venture so pray the snow has gone by Monday. I dare say Tim will bear the loss !

Well, MX8000 tube now successfully transplaned to LX5500 ... what a marked improvement a new tube makes :)  Now for the chassis service and cosmetic overhall.

Just as a matter of interest, did you know that Lee has a boxed LX6000 Whiteline in stock? I have had a quick peek and it looks perfect - as white as the driven snow! For those not aware of this model, the LX has probably the best picture in a CRT - not some much digital mucking about with the picture - excellent sound with a tweeter and woofer for each channel with a decent separation between them and in the case of the White Line model, finished in glossy white.

I think Peter is playing this LX6000 down a bit..  It's brand new, never used and in it's original box.  The original owner had it delivered in 1991, but never unpacked it as it was destined for a room that wasn't completed by the decorators.  When the room was eventually done, they decided not to have a TV in there, and placed it carefully in their heated garage and covered the box with blankets.  There it stayed, untouched for about 12 years until they approached their Bang & Olufsen dealer for a new TV and casually asked if he would take it in part exchange.  That the dealer did, and he then did the same in his own stock room for another 6 years until i unearthed it from under a dust cover and made him a cash offer on it.

I too have absolutely no idea what to do with it, and have even thought about loaning it to the B&O Museum in Struer!  It's one of those 'timewarp' finds i come across once every few years, and being in white makes it all the more desirable now!

It is rather gorgeous! And that is from someone who does not like white products! It would have been about £1300 when new which in today's money would be about £2000. Worth every penny then! I bought a rosewood one in 1993 for £1450.

Lee, have you thought about using it for a prize in the monthly draw?

It is almost too good for a prize draw - it is one of those items that should not be used now as to do so would diminish its value!

There must be lots of other LX5500 about that could be used.  Lee was kind enough to give me an old black one recently in return for a small donation to help keep this site operating !  If you need an LX5500 prize Lee you can have it back!!

Absolutely not ... whats the value if it cannot be used!  TVs have a finite lifetime, they do not last for ever ... even if unused ... use it now, whilst it is worth using.

In fact, it might even be that it will need servicing before it will operate to spec ...
