Passive amp and control eye - remote won't work but the control eye can be manually controlled

Recent purchase of a Passive amp (from Ebay!) where the control eye attached can be controlled manually but a remote will not operate it. Amp is in a masterlink setup. The other 2 amps that I have in the setup work fine - did a lot of swopping around to isolate if it was a wiring problem. Reverted to using a B&Q supplied control eye wire on the amp but it still would not work. Concerned that the problem is in the amp. Took the 'back' off the amp and checked that none of the Din pin 'receivers' were damaged. They appeared fine and checked that they were working by inserting an 'empty' 7 Din pin checking that the connections were sound by 'belling' out the solder connections with the Pin's'.  Also using the 'link' & 'store' option on a Beolink 1000 remote using numbers of 0, 1,2,3,4,5,6 - still no joy. Has anyone come across this problem before ? Any help greatly appreciated. If it is not feasible to fix the amp can the powerlink socket be used in lieu of the control eye ?

    Hi, and welcome to BeoWorld.Smile
It would be helpful if you told us what Amps you are using. Is your recent purchase a Beolink Passive?

The amp I am using is a Beolink Passive. I bought it on ebay from an individual who is not gone from Ebay so I'm stuck with it ! I have triple checked the wiring that I was using and it was fine. I reverted to using a standard B&Q supplied cable (completely standard that works on another Beolink Passive)  - still no joy. Changed the Masterlink cable on another Beolink Passive to rule on the cabling - again still no joy. Strong suspicion that the beolink passive is faulty unless there's a setting (software option) that has been turned on/off. Again help would be greatly appreciated.

Try re-setting the passive to Link Option 6 and see if that cures it. Is there a Link Option 0 to turn off the IR????? Possibly.

    Regards Graham

Thanks for your posting Graham. Tried the putting the eye to a setting of 0 i.e. Link, 0 & store on a beolink 1000 remote ; then did the same with a setting of 6 - no joy. When I tried in on another eye / passive amp it worked in that the red light flashed. On the 'faulty' beolink passive the light does not flash on the eye nor does it work. If I could get the light to flash... it might be a start ! Again thanks for your input.

I realise it may be a silly question but is the red light illuminated on the passive box?

I always try to operate using/following the KISS principle --  Keep it simple stupid!

I suspect that this may be the problem - a non working passive that someone sold for £££s knowing that it was not working.  They can sell for £150++ which sadly is a lot for a non working item.  I hope I am wrong....

Many thanks to all of you for your responses. On a previous post I was asked about the red light - it was on for both the boelink passive and the control eye. The fault would appear to be in the passive amp. I hate to be beaten on this one but the amp still works it and I am able to control the volume and turn on & off. I'll have to put the setup in the Guest room !
